Tasini - great ad! war is wrong, Bush is wrong, Get Out and Vote!

I was watching the Daily Show and a Tasini ad comes on (he is primarying Clinton in NYS dem senate primary). It was motivational and straightforward in a way that New Yorkers will take to.

His ad was anti war, anti Bush. I think this appeals to the dem primary voters in two different ways - a vote for Tasini is against the war, and it would help Hillary2008 find the way back to the left (middle).

...Also, do you know how the NY-19 race is turning out? I live in Westchester, but I'm away at school.
I'm planning on voting for Tasini in the primary as a protest vote. Not because I hate Hillary, but because I want to force her to have second thoughts about running for President. If Tasini gets about 20% in the primary, it might convince Hillary not to run. I'm also voting for Sean Maloney for Attornery General because I can't stand Andrew Cuomo or Mark Green, and I'll skip that race in November unless the race with Jeanine "where's page 10?" Pirro gets closer.

5. The ad was actually in the lower hudson valley market

which is less pricey then nyc. Things are looking good for Hall in the primary (yo- check this -> http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x2067588 <- link out) but I don't know that Sue Kelly can be beat. If she can, Hall can beat her....

I don't have a pony in the AG race. I liked Cuomo until his McCall primary in 2002. I'll vote for someone else perhaps...

Kerry is about as good as we have had it since JFK - liberal wise. How would the Tasini candidacy move the party to the center?

9. Not in a cataclysmic way, in a cumulative way.

The more candidates like Tasini and Lamont challenge the DLC incumbents, the more the incumbents must shift to the left in order to woo progressive voters. Shift too far to the right, like Lieberman, and you're in a bad spot. If Tasini, who has a kitty of $150,000 and won permission to run about 6 weeks before the primary, if a candidate like that even takes 20% of the vote then its sending a message to the DLC: you can't forget about the base.

If Tasinis and Lamonts pop up all over the country, you might see a these candidates pop out a ball or two.

I personally think that our party (the Dems, or the DLC) is fucked. Any help making it a true opposistion party should be sought. So do you think that Lamont and Tasini move us to the left?

*to the right* at the moment, and Tasini/Lamont will help push us back to the center. Of course, if people like Tasini and Wellstone were in office, we'd end up going towards the left. But right now, I think we're solidly to the many issues judging by why bills are passing.

11. Wish we had a better campaign in primary against DiFi here in California!

Colleen Fernald was a decent candidate, but she barely met the filing deadline and had hardly any visibility at all!

Do note though that right after Cindy Sheehan threatened to run against Feinstein in the primary if she didn't support a fillibuster of Alito, that suddenly DiFi was on the list of senators that voted against cloture, even though publicly earlier she seemed lined up against the fillibuster when she was expressing "doubts of its effectiveness, etc." that prompted Cindy Sheehan's response. So there's a clear example of how even the threat of a viable primary contender can change these candidate's tunes some.

New Yorkers, line up to vote for Tasini. You don't have anything to lose, and everything to gain, even if he doesn't win! It's the general election where you need to be more thoughtful about making sure that the Republican doesn't get the win.

14. I plan to back Clinton in November but I already voted for Tasini

...by absentee ballot that is, I will be outside of New York State on Tuesday. It was a no brainer for me. The Republicans won't be fielding a credible Senate candidate in November, and Spitzer will be a Democratic steam roller for Governor at the top of the State ticket. This is a SAFE seat for Democrats, and no doubt Clinton will return to the Senate, but I want her to head back to Washington with a message from New York State Democrats.

A lot of us aren't happy with Hillary for throwing away an opportunity to be a national leader for Progressive causes, because she so desperately wants to cultivate a centrist image to win over Hillary haters who stand in the way of her Presidential ambitions. I know Clinton has a predominantly Liberal voting record, but when she isn't actually defecting she usually steps back into the shadows when a progressive cause is being hotly contested, and lets other Democrats take the early hits over it.

Hillary was never a leader fighting Bush's rush to War. She was never a leader fighting the PNAC Neo Con plans to attempt massive violent social engineering in the Middle East. She does not stand for single payer health insurance. She has been overly corporate friendly regarding "Free Trade" agreements.

I was proud to once have RFK as my Senator. Stop clogging the box Hillary, and start becoming the leader we Democrats need, not the Presidential Candidate you imagine the Mid West wants. I hope Tasini gets 20% of the vote on Tuesday. Given how the odds are stacked against him, that would be pretty impressive and I will consider it message sent.
