ABC Statement: Critics of Path to 9/11 Are ‘Premature and Irresponsible’

ThinkProgress has obtained a statement released just now by ABC Television about its planned docudrama “The Path to 9/11.” The release says the “editing process is not yet complete, so criticisms of film specifics are premature and irresponsible.”

Statement from ABC Entertainment on The Path to 9/11

“The Path to 9/11″ is not a documentary of the events leading to 9/11. It is a dramatization, drawn from a variety of sources including the 9/11 Commission Report, other published materials, and personal interviews. As such, for dramatic and narrative purposes, the movie contains fictionalized scenes, composite and representative characters and dialogue, and time compression. No one has seen the final version of the film, because the editing process is not yet complete, so criticisms of film specifics are premature and irresponsible. The attacks of 9/11 were a pivotal moment in our history, and it is fitting that the debate about the events related to the attacks continue. However, we hope viewers will watch the entire broadcast of the finished film before forming an opinion about it.

It's premature to plan to air it when the know it's filled with false statements and fraudulent scenarios.

It's irresponsible of them not have provided their viewers with a factual accounting of the events leading up to one of the worst moments in American history.

11. Well, our local ABC affiliate's GM is quite upset.

Hubby called him this AM, and it was clear my husband wasn't the first call. his everey rebuttal began with "You people...". He started by saying it wasn't intended to portray the truth, just a " dramatic version of it" , but by the end of the phone call, he was begging us not to "bother" local sponsers who advertise on the show.
My husband is angrier than I've seen him in years - he called the national headquarters of ABC to tell them they are dishonoring the dead with their lies. Which is the real outrage.

how the Bush administration has been handled in this miniseries although I'm not curious enough to watch it and see. Richard Ben-Veniste was on Countdown last night and had only been able to see clips covering the Clinton administration. His "premature and irresponsible" judgment was that this "based on the 9/11 commission report" docudrama directly contradicts some findings of the commission. Who's irresponsible now?
