Here's my letter to Scholastic
I borrowed from another letter. Thanks to that writer. :)

Dear Scholastic,

I am a teacher for the Department of Defense Dependents Schools, and I teach Scholastic's Read 180. I also patronize Scholastic Book Fairs on base.

I am very disappointed to read that you are going to distribute the docu/drama (whatever that is) "The Path to 911" as educational material to schools throughout the country. I hope that does not include DoDDS overseas schools. From what I have read (including comments from Bill Clinton, Madeleine Albright, and Sandy Berger, and some members of the 911 Commission), the miniseries contains several key scenes that are total fabrications and are completely untrue. I know that this movie was written by a social conservative who is a close friend of Rush Limbaugh (who was provided with a copy of the movie while President Clinton was not).

This is obviously a pre-election publicity stunt on Scholastic's and ABC's part, and I will not have any part of it. While I have enjoyed your Read 180 program, as have my students, I will not promote any educational material of yours related to an event so horrendous that you nevertheless find it appropriate to fabricate the facts and present them to unsuspecting children.

I will notify those teachers and parents at my school, as well as my administrator and the teachers' unions, the NEA and the FEA, of your intentions to promote falsehoods in an arena where your personal politics have no place.

I hope you will reconsider your decision. The history of 911 is much too important to military children to be fabricated and politicized. If this is your version of the truth, then Scholastic is not welcome in my house nor my classroom.

Sincerely,

5. Great letter!
I'm surprised that Scholastic is in cohoots with them on this. I worked with them last year when Jean Philo was the president, and she is as liberal as they come. They've had a shakeup in the company; maybe this new regime is the reason I no longer get work with them (they know my politics).

7. Scholastic will not be happy you are notifying teachers and unions
and the Soccer moms.

Those people along with school districts are Scholastic's customers.

Great letter.

12. Excellent.
It's polite, but certainly conveys your outrage, and it should get their attention since you are in the position to spread your message to many people. I still need to write my letter and I hope it's remotely as articulate as your's. Thanks for posting it.

13. Either Scholastic trusted ABC on this sight unseen or they are part of the
problem. We do need to make sure they weren't duped. If so, a big mistake, hopefully they won't be blindly trusting content again.
But if they weren't duped and they were in on this, they need to be investigated thoroughly and have their access to public schools reviewed.

14. If Scholastic doesn't pull their materials, the unions will get involved
as did the FEA when the Bushies were trying to pass the "National Security" Personnel System in order to undermine workers' due process and bargaining rights.

The union sued, and a judge said the NSPS was illegal.

Scholastic needs to get its lawyers together and take a close look at what they've gotten themselves into. My oversight of their company will increase immensely if they don't extract themselves from ABC's shenanigans.
