I just contacted my local school district about Scholastic.
Surprisingly they've been getting quite a few calls--- Seminole School district in Central Florida.

This is how you go after Scholastic.

5. Scholastic has contracted with schools to show the mockudrama —
with a largely bogus study guide, too.

6. Jeez
Scholastic is distributing the Path to 9/11 guides to school districts around the country.

If you pressure the school districts, they might not do business with Scholastic.

There's a thread on DU from Kos that say this is scaring the shit out of Scholastic sales people.

8. Can I ask you a few questions?
I want to contact my local school district also, to find out if they're using those Scholastic materials and propagandizing our children.

Did you call the school (or schools)? or did you call the district office? I wondered if the district offices would even have knowledge about specific lesson plans--and if it wasn't best to call the schools.

Thanks for any info!

I think it's great that you are involved and making calls. You're making a difference. Kudos to you.

20. T.S, here is my letter to our Superintendent of Schools:
Dear Dr. ______: I am contacting you because I am concerned about a study/discussion guide produced by ABC/Disney and distributed to educators by Scholastic, on the movie “The Path to 911”. The movie is also being provided free of charge to schools, for use with this study guide.

Although ABC has backed off from their original advertisement of this movie as a “docu-drama”, the current disclaimer states that the movie is based on the 911 Commission Report (among other sources), when in fact it contradicts the 911 Commission Report on key points, especially in regard to the Clinton Administration’s handling of terrorism. The Clinton Administration is presented as being “weak and inept” in dealing with the threat, in contrast to the “strong and competent” Bush Administration.

I don’t know why Scholastic is participating in this somewhat Orwellian attempt to rewrite history, particularly targeted toward high school students (who will be voting in the next presidential election). I have contacted Scholastic directly to try and get some answers on this. Yesterday I viewed the study guide at their company website, but interestingly, today it has been removed.

I request that the ________ Joint Unified School District not present to students this questionable rendering of the events leading up to the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, and reject the use of “The Path to 911” movie or study guide in any of its classrooms. If parents wish their children to view the film, it should be at home at the parents’ sole discretion.

My children attend _________ High School and ________ Elementary School. It the District does allow this study guide and film to be used in their classrooms, I would appreciate being informed, because I wish to “opt out” of their participation.

Thank you for all your work on behalf of our kids and young adults.
-- Sincerely, Wanet

10. that's great!
Scholastic is too big a ship to turn around in time for the movie, but school districts can take votes and make decisions much more quickly.

Way to go--and isn't it neat that you weren't the first one to call!

and everyone needs to make phone calls of this nature. School has just started, those office staffs are tanned, rested, fresh and ready.

Big kick.

17. don't stop with school admins - contact your PTO/PTA officers too
Remember, most Scholastic book fairs and sales are done as fundraisers for the school. Sometimes, the book fairs are sponsored by the PTO/PTA organizations. Let them know that the fund raising can dry up if this is brought into the schools. Then contact at least one other like-minded parent and inform them about what Scholastic is doing and ask them to call the school admin and the PTO/PTA too. Then ask them to contact at least one other parent and so on.

Fund raising is a funny thing in any school district. Cutting off their nose to spite their face for this one lousy docudrama is NOT what they would support.
