So does declaring we have a War on something like Drugs or Poverty or
Terror give any President the Power of "Unitary Executive". No War was declared by Congress. Only the Administration is saying we are at "War". We have been at "War" for decades now. "War on Poverty", "War on Drugs", "War on Crime", now "War on Terror". not a single one of these can be won. Only improvements in how we deal with these issues can be made. There will always be Poverty, there will always be Drugs, there will always be Crime, there will always be Terror . None of these things call for a "Unitary Executive". What we really need is a "War on Ignorance"....

1. Only if we are weak and it is taken from us by force.
It would be too easy for any president to say we are having a war on the Irish Immigrants and then demand that he/she have the power to strip anyone of Irish heritage of citizenship and throw them in detention camps.

That is how dangerous and how insane the mere notion of allowing one moron the ability to have unitary power.

This criminal and his pack of thugs need to be rounded up and locked up for treason!

2. Great subject line!!! The next time some asshole mentions the "war on
terra," our comeback should be, "Is that like the war on drugs?" (...dead silence, as everyone thinks about the prevalence of illegal drugs in the United States, and somebody they know whose life was ruined by it...), or,

"we've got to win the war on terra!"--and somebody pipes up, "Is that like the war on poverty?" (...dead silence, as....).

Beautiful. Perfect reply.

3. EXACTLY!!!
This is exactly what I have been ranting about since they declared this stupid war on terror. It drives me stark raving crazy.
And people just buy into it and get sucked down the hole, swallow it all hook, line and sinker. I don't get it. Are people really so stupid
that they can't see through all this crap??? I mean, I'm just an average schmuck - no brilliant visionary mind in my head - but I figured
this ploy out a long time ago, yet no one else seems to have (by that, I mean a large portion of the public - even people who no longer approve of shrub).
Anytime an administration uses one of these "war on {fill in the blank}" phrases, that's ALL it is - a political CATCH PHRASE - NOT a real WAR.

The Bush admin. uses the "war on terra" as the foundation of nearly all of their policies. It's their battle cry for nearly everything they've done, yet it's all comletely BOGUS!!!
To me, this is (one of) the roots to this stinking, rotting mess they've gotten us into.

Thank you for saying this and saying it well. And unlike the others, I am all FOR a "War on Ignorance"!!
