After yesterday's angry and defiant pro torture speech meant for the maniacal base that will vote for bush regardless, the neo cons don't seem to give a fuck about our soldiers by declaring that we will continue to torture our prisoners of war.

It will happen, not if but when, and when it does, oh brother will it piss Americans off, but so what, torture is cool now, everybody does it, we do too, but we want to do it openly and free from prosecution.

the torture chickens WILL come home to roost.

1. If they haven't already
The media doesn't tell us anything that Bush doesn't want us to know.
And yes, those chickens WILL come home to roost. As a military family member, it pisses me off to no end.

7. by ignoring the geneva conventions, we give tacit permission for our
captors to torture our own soldiers.

the whole point of the GC was to have an agreed upon basic standard of prisoner treatment, in order to give a modicum of protection to anyone from anywhere from torture.

once we, of all countries, blatantly ignore that agreement, then we became a specific target of that mistreatment.

another wonderful delusional aspect of this administration. They think torturing would quell terrorism, but it only breeds it more virulently as revenge against our own actions.

9. no, that's not the point.
what you're saying is accurate, but beside the point.
when WE do it, then we give tacit permission to EVERYONE to torture us, not just the previous groups that ignored the GC.
not sure you get my meaning: Now, if France or Germany (god forbid), countries who adhere to the GC, captured us, since we do NOT adhere to the GC, they are not bound to in our specific case.

11. THE POINT IS: obviously, we are NOT bound...
because we ignore the GC.
so, if we are not bound, why is anyone else bound?

sheesh, are you intentionally missing my point?

23. no, the truth is EXACTLY OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU'RE SAYING.. we DO
ignore the CG as a matter of policy. Are you completely UNAWARE of Gonzale's memo telling the administration its okeydoke to circumvent the torture stipulations of the CG as long as organ failure does not occur?

have you been living in a hole for the last several years?

gees, google is your friend.

19. No, and that's how a hierarchical social structure works
Those at the top are good, those at the bottom are bad. Those at the top know what can and can't be done.

25. Our soldiers have been tortured in past wars.
This is why those of us who are old enough to remember are doubly enraged about this. The purpose of the Geneva conventions was so that our soldiers would have a chance to be safe from torture if taken as POWs. None of our soldiers is safe from this now and what has been done to some of our soldiers recently bears witness to this.
