Poll: Diplomacy Key in Iran Nuke Dispute
Most Americans and Europeans believe diplomacy is the key to resolving the nuclear dispute with Iran, according to a survey released Wednesday. But sizable groups of respondents back force if talks fail.

The poll found that 84 percent of Europeans and 79 percent of Americans want diplomacy to continue to get Tehran to comply with a U.N. Security Council demand it suspends nuclear enrichment.

If that doesn't work, less than half - 45 percent of Americans and 37 percent of Europeans - support the use of force, according to poll, conducted yearly by the German Marshall Fund of the United States.

The survey polled 1,000 people in the United States and 12 European nations in face-to-face and telephone interviews from June 6 to 24. It has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
