Faux News at my doctor's office! I wrote 'em I want it off!
I've had it! My letter to my doctor's office:

Dear Physicians:

I would like to kindly ask that you refrain from airing Fox News in the waiting room of your clinic. Every single time I'm there,“Faux News” has the attention of the captive audience of folks waiting for their appointments.

The American public is already lacking in critical thinking skills – subjecting them to drivel only exacerbates the problem. If television has to be ever-present in any public space (and that’s a question worth considering . . . is it for the employees or the patients?), why not a health care program?

The last thing we need is right wing propaganda tacitly endorsed by our health care professionals.

2. You Could Have Handled It Better
Like, go up to the receptionist and say something about needing a bag, because since Fox News is on in the waiting room, you are becoming sick to your stomach.

One of two things will happen - they willc hane the channel, or you will get into to see the doctor faster!

3. You should also remind your doc...
because of RW hack is the reason people are losing health-care. He;s livelihood, which, he could also lose job due to lack of patients with health-care coverage to pay his salary.

cold-shoulder from them. I had the same thing happen to me at a Mammogram clinic, and I just got up and moved. I never thought about writing a letter. If it is on the next time that I go, I will follow your good example!

39. So true; in hotel lobbies of even fairly good hotels they play the
TV now - I just find it annoying.

The radio even more so, and they play it in stores or at the swimming pool. It's not so much that i don't like the music but I hate listening to those stupid announcers.

7. My Hope.....

1.....That you spelled the word Faux correctly so as not to give them any reason to believe your illiterate....

2..........That you have an easy time finding a new Doctor.........I have a feeling that they will not cave...hopefully it was changed at the request of another patient........Have you ever asked to change the channel...My Dentist leaves the remote on a leash bolted to the table in his waiting room so we can watch what we like....

Anyhow Im going to nominate this thread for the greatest because of your efforts....

9. I just get up and change the channel
If there's no one else there, I do it. If there are other people, I usually say something like, "Do you mind if I find something besides Fox News? I'm getting nauseous listening to it."

Seems to work well.

and the Cardiologist and the hospital and every other damn place. Just shut the TV off already! We don't need it on in every public place. Good letter.

16. I love my doc and he's good. When he's had "objectionable"
material on his tele in the waiting room, hubby just whips out his palm pilot finds the code to that brand of tv and changes the channel ;) You ought to see the funny reactions we get.

I was having my oil changed and sitting in the waiting room that sported Faux News on the TV. I asked for the manager and said: "Please stop polluting your customers' brains with this crap." (I normally would not do such a thing but I was in a mood and it just got on my last nerve.) He smiled and turned the channel. No one in the waiting room seemed to object and I felt smug for a tiny moment.

18. I love it! Even videos of health care information
that repeats every couple of hours would be better. Or if it is an OB-GYN's office, something about benefits of breastfeeding, or regular visits, or birth control or how to do BSE.

31. That's a great invention
And I already know how it works. It sends out the coded command for "off" for all televsions ever made. There can't be more than about 10 different codes.

Ingenious!

And no, television doesn't have to be present in a public space.

I don't have one in my house and I don't miss the $##* thing a bit.

30. I got one of our local stores to TURN IT OFF (Almost 2 years now!)
People in the Northwestern states have probably heard of "Fred Meyers"... Welp, one here had about 600 televisions on Faux (in their audio visual/tv section) RIGHT NEXT TO THE CHECKOUT on every day..

When I mentioned it to them, they said it was the old fart manager of that section that wanted it on.. the employees didn't want any news on.. they wanted VH1 or MTV.

They gave me a complaint card.. I filled it out... and Fred Meyers down in Oregon responded with "the problem should be solved!"

They were right!

All the tv's have been on a music channel for the past 2 years!

BTW.. the only reason it bothered me was because of their location.. it got on my NERVES because I hate Faux!

Being the squeeky wheel worked!

(someone else I know got a local gym to permanently switch theirs to CNN)
