Will your 12 year old be sucked into this "Long war"?
Do you think that's impossible? Can't imagine it? No way, not my Robbie, not my Joanie, not, gonna, happen.

This is exactly what we are looking at, in fact it is happening right now, and it will apparently be happening in 6 years as well, as we track down terror around the globe, your 12 year old will be prime military material by then.

Think on THAT for a while.

1. When the draft gets reinstated all these lazy little shits who aren't
paying attention will suddenly sit up and take notice. When its time for them to go to the Middle East as cannon fodder, they'll start to shit their pants.

It happened in the 60s, it'll happen again. That's why we don't have a draft now and we're recycling these poor schmucks three or four times.

2. Been thinking about it since this shit started....
...when my oldest was in fifth grade, and my second oldest in second. They are now a sophomore in high school and a 7th-grader, respectively. So, yeah, it's been on my mind.

The question is, is it also on the minds of all my neighbor freepers, who also have kids who are rapidly approaching draft age, and still proudly support Bushco?

4. My only child is about the same
age as your oldest, now in 9th grade, and I've worried about this from the beginning & getting more afraid as it keeps dragging on. I've already lost a cousin over there who left behind a pregnant wife -- over my dead body will my baby go over there to fight this BS war-for-profit.

5. Yes the military Corp, must be keep up
We are around the world and in a many way we could not give it up. We also need to USE all those things that come from other countries. That really seems what this fight is all about. Are our corp. going to control the goods from other countries or are the people in their own countries going to do it? I do not think big business have seen the writing on the wall. Colony empire for stealing goods is gone. But we are going to try and keep it going. We just got in late and have not woke up to this fact that 5 percent of the words pop. can not use 85 percent of the goods and keep getting away with it. So the fight is out into the open. Now we have our zealots in power who are fighting their zealots who wish to be in power. Their sons and ours must be used for the battle.

My oldest is old enough to take my youngest and go no "vacation" to Europe or elsewhere and simply forget to come back.

7. I have been thinking about this since the Chimp ...
... decided to incite hatred for the U.S. in the hearts of the rest of the world.

My 24 year old was badly (permanent disability) injured in an auto accident 4 years ago ... so he can't be caught up in the mess the Chimp has created (his temperament has never been one that would be voluntarily drawn to the military).

I fear for my 10 and 12 year olds.

8. No.
We'll leave before that happens. Though we do have a relative serving, no child of mine is going to go in as long as the rest of the world considers the US is commiting war crimes under the current command structure. I also have a 22 year old but he probably wouldn't have to go anyway since he is autistic and I doubt would pass through basic.

9. Drafting our Young
I have two 14 year old, and one 16 year old nephew, and I do
think about it alot.
They tried to call back my sister, (mother to two of the
nephews, and former Marine), but because of how she got out,
(bum knees), she didn't have to go. (Whew!)

And the 2 year old nephew I'm not so worried about. Yet.

10. 100% agree.
Not a fucking chance in hell. I'd give up everything and take off for another country with my family before I'd let that happen.

12. Three of my nephews are
12 almost 13, 8, and 5 and I worry about this very topic EVERY DAY!!!!

Actually I have already told the family that they will go in the military over my dead body - but you know I will do anything I can to talk them out of voulunteering but if they decide they want to do it what can we do - well Mike Malloy said he would have taken a bat to his son's knees if he had wanted to join - so maybe there is that - but also if there is a draft - it is ultimately up to them - to go or resist - oh Jesus the thought of it literally makes me SICK.

14. My 16 year old will be attending McGill
There's a difference between cut and run and staying there for decades. As usual, the Repukes are hoping that Dems clean up the mess they made, then they'll start bitching and moaning again, trying to impeach and blah blah.

We've really got to drive these bastards out of DC, close down their think tanks, shutter K Street, and get rid of all the hidey holes they run to when the public finally gets wise to fascism.

23. Prepare to send them abroad NOW.
For example, Costa Rica has no military and many American children have gone to high school there (it can be cheaper than putting them through school here). They will become bilingual and have a GREAT time! I know because I lived and went to school there.

26. That brings
up a very profound issue. The draft.

What shape will it take? What purpose will it serve? Will those drafted also serve a compulsory role "policing" domestic "crises?"

and it horrifies me to think of her being sucked into this neocon insanity.

Thanks for all of your posts on DU. I was really touched by another post that I saw by you this morning, but I can't find it now. It was the one about you being a grandfather. I am not a grandfather, or even a father, but I really related to the sentiments you expressed. Very very much so. This place is better for you being here.
