Ahmadinejad and Pol Pot
These two are starting to have a lot in common.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Iran's hard-line president urged students Tuesday to push for a purge of liberal and secular university teachers, another sign of his determination to strengthen Islamic fundamentalism in the country.

2. agreed but
what i have been reading is making me concerned. While hopefully we won't see something as horrific as the killing fields, this turn for fundamentalism is deeply worrisome.

3. Closest to the killing fields
was when CIA trained SAVAK were rounding up dissidents under the USA supported Shah's regime. Any current comparisons don't wash - it's an absurd comparison.

to make you concerned.

6. On the point you are corrrect
Any person who thinks they have a monopoly on the truth is a serious threat.
The President of Iran is a potentially dangerous person. He spews an immense amount of hatred and (IMO) a lot of bigoted nonsense. If he could attain the level of authority that Pol Pot attained then there would be great cause for alarm.

7. I take it you don't feel threatened by * and the PNACers...
Edited on Wed Sep-06-06 05:35 AM by Skidmore
Ahmedinejad and * actually sound much more alike than any two leaders today. Bombastic and bellicose, steeped in ideology and ready to pick a fight over high falluting bigoted nonsense. Frankly, * has been trying to stifle the press since the 2000 election year and considers himself to have a monopoly on the truth.

Oops...intended to be posted as a response to the OP.

8. Your right
they do and given the chance i don't know what * would actually do but it would certainly be on the same level as Ahmedinejad's call for Israels destruction.

4. He sounds more and more like . . .
. . . a Republican.

He "urged students Tuesday to push for a purge of liberal and secular university teachers" - has he been talking to David Horowitz, Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson or Daniel Pipes?

9. The only reason this is in the news is that some assholes want war.
But this thread topic takes the cake. First prize. With honours.

Propaganda extreme.

Notice he's not trying to use executive powers to make changes; he's trying to encourage grass-roots, democratic pressure to get what he wants. OOOOOHHH! Just bomb the damn country right now.

Comparing him to Pol Pot. Unfuckingbelievable!

10. I feel
that i should respond to this one because it you make such colorful words directed at me. I did not state what i would do to solve this problem i merely felt it important to take notice and make a comparison to our past.

11. Perhaps the dumbest comparison yet
Edited on Wed Sep-06-06 05:57 AM by alcibiades_mystery
I'm no fan of Mr. Ahmadinejad, but this is just plain stupid. You apparently don't know a goddamn thing about Pol Pot, Ahmadinejad, history, or politics, or you have absolutely zero capacity to think or make distinctions.

A truly embarrassing post.

14. please don't stop
the comparison i was trying to make was a simple one it was that Pol Pot in an act to wipe the slate clean murdered anyone who was educated. A simple comparison. I was only trying to state an extreme to illustrate how we should pay attention. I regret posting this not because i believe it is a poor comparison but because of people like you and some of the others here. I am some what new this discussion board and i am generally thick skinned but i will tell you what you and those like you are not progressive at all instead of belittling people or writing nothing but a bashing post how about you try to educate others? or is it just easier to make broad bashing statements instead of "i don't like that here's what i think..." Try a little harder next time and remember that we are here to find a solution and support.

Universities in the US? How are faculty who disagree with Bushco treated these days?
