Craig's List...It's only the beginning
quote.....
Please help me! "My daughter could die without a Heart Transplant"

Danielle is a 24 year old single mother who needs to have a Heart Transplant. In 1984 my husband, her father died of Congestive Heart Failure and Danielle was diagnosed with the same life taking condition. She was attending college in Atlanta Georgia, when she was diagnosed with this condition this year in February 2006. I brought her home to get her medical help here in Denver. She has been in and out of the hospital several times and in intensive care for 4 weeks at one time. Just like the John Q movie that Denzel Washington stared in Danielle is not eligible for insurance. She applied for SSI and was approved in July of this year and was able to receive Medicaid which took care of her medical bills and medication. This month she received a letter from the Social Security Office stateting that she was no longer eligible for SSI and that she was eligible for Disability. Well, disability does not give her any medical benefits, so therefore she is not eligible for Medicaid and now has no health coverage.

Danielle's doctors were hoping Medicaid would cover her heart transplant because they have her approved to go on the transplant list but without any health benefits they are unable to list her. Her transplant will cost anywhere between $100,000 to $500, 000 dollars, depending on the severity of the transplant.

Danielle has a 2 year old son and she can not take care of him due to her existing condition. His father and grandparents that live in Savannah GA are taking care of him. If we don't get some kind of help she will not live to see him grow up to be a young man. But with God's will and your help she can live, to be a blessing and a living testimony to others.

My name is Sheryl Conner, and I am her mother and advocate. I am writing this letter to see if there is a way you can endorse her. We want to get donations and start fundraisers; we need help from you, the media and corporations. I am working two jobs to help pay her medical bills and my two sons have moved in to help with me with Danielle's care and expenses. If I could have ten thousand jobs I would do it to save my daughter life. This is a mother's worse night mare.

This can be verified through the University Of Colorado Hospital by Dr. Andreas Breike or Mona Cantu, NP, in the Congestive Heart Failure Clinic.

We are putting a fundraiser together to be held in the next 2-3 weeks. Looking for a $3,000 donation for Entertainment, Food and Venue.

Please call (303) 435-1723 for more information

14. Wrong. If You Qualify for SS Disability, You're AUTOMATICALLY Medicare
This smells like a scam to me. CHF is not a transplant condition; at least not the way it's "explained" in this piece.

18. It's Not An Article; It's a Self-Published Beg-Site With No Verification
There's no information on why she's getting a tx and not eligible for Medicare - only that they're hiring a professional "events coordinator" to put on a fund-raising party and that they want the public to pay for that. Why can't they get the promoter and venue to donate their services?

The hospital and clinic listed cannot by law release ANY information about "Danielle" - even that she's a patient there - under HIPAA. Looks nice, but is meaningless that she's listed these places. I could say I'm a patient at Kaiser, call and ask about my kidney failure and you won't get bupkus from them, even if I gave you my medical record number.

She's eligible for MediCARE and Medicare covers txs. Either it's a scam or they're doing this so poorly it looks and smells like one.

21. I'm with you
on this one. ALL people on Disability get Medicare, though if I recall correctly, there is a six month gap between getting disability and then getting the Medicare.

People are totally gullible, though, and this family certainly looks like they are going to cheat the system.

22. MediCARE Is Based On Filing Date or Diasability Date, Not on Benefit Date
I can't remember exactly how the formula works, but it's not based on the date of approval for benefits, but either when the application for benefits was filed or date of disability. I have no idea how it works when Medicaid is involved, but I do know this - this just doesn't pass the smell test.

20. Wrong!
I'm on disability, not SSI, and I received Medicare. And it's a Federal thing, not a state-driven one.

23. Medicare kicks in 2 yrs AFTER Soc. Sec. Disability eligibility
But Medicare is a Federal program so I don't understand how this would effect her Medicaid benefits which is a State program based on financial considerations.

11. On re-read, I think I've got it
So they (maybe, maybe not, I get these kinds of pleas all the time) need some money for a transplant.

First time I have ever seen a request for some party funds.

15. People Usually Don't Get Tx for CHF
Unless there's something else going on, I smell scam. SS Disability recipients automatically qualify for MediCARE (not MedicAID) and txs are covered under Medicare.

When my kidneys go belly-up (in about 5 years, if they continue their current rate of decline), I'm going to solicit for a party fund!

19. Violation of HIPAA To Give Out Patient Info
Edited on Wed Sep-06-06 03:35 AM by REP
Nice detail - totally meaningless.

What you may not realize is that I *am* on SS Disability and in organ failure (and CHF is a major complication of what I have). I know how this works - "Danielle" and her mother are either very badly informed, or very bad liars.

10. Conceived by Stockman, begat not made... K&R
This is just the continuation. Push up deficits, squeeze benefits out of the budget in absolute terms... and why you might ask? Don't have the answer to that.

Terrible story, there are many more like it and we need more posts like this. Thanks!

12. medical care
It's disgusting in a country as rich as this that healthcare is not considered a basic human right. Nazi party, stop stealing our tax $$ & throwing them at the military. We need to become a civilized country & have universal healthcare.
