How is it that * and his hired guns can lie for years and years,
Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 11:10 PM by texpatriot2004
right to our faces? I know this might be a Captain Obvious moment but I just read the post about Alberto Gonzales lying to the police officers; you know, he's talking trash about fighting crime without Fed $ and says the pResident will reduce the deficit and fight terrorism...what utter bullshit. It is basic logic if a person's actions don't match their words then they are lying. Period.

So, you know, how is it that a pResident and his cronies can just continue to lie and lie without consequences? It really is quite baffling. Absurd even. A riddle perhaps.

I mean, of course there is the Cover-up-Congress, complicit in his/their crimes but aside from that, aside from the rubber stamping Congress, aside from the Corporate Whore Media, aside from these things...there is more.

What are we missing? What else is there? How do we allow this? How does this happen in the United States of America? And how is it that the Cover-up-Congress gets away with rubber stamping and law changing to cover-up the high crimes of the * Administration without being held accountable, legally and criminally, for violating the Oath they swore when they took office, the Oath to uphold the US Constitution and provide Congressional oversight?

I really need to read M. Scott Peck's book "The People of the Lie."

1. Its a culture of lies, like the Soviet Union pre-collapse.
What happens is that lying becomes seen as a necessary tool to get by, usually with some sort of "end justifies the means" justification. This happened in the Soviet Union, and it led to the complete collapse of the state, literally. The efforts of Gorby we associate with the fall were actually last ditch efforts to save a state so corrupted that nobody had a clue what was going on, because everybody was lying. If we don't change radically, America will suffer the same collapse as a result of Bush.

2. People are anesthetized. They have TV, big toys, and they're
workin' hard. They don't have time to realize the boat is going over the falls.

3. They can lie all they want
as long as there is a rubberstamp do-nothing
republican congress that will shield them from
the consequences.... that's going to change in a few months.

besides no one believes them except half-wits and freepers

6. Cause all politicians lie, so folks are used to it
if not lie, they spin the truth.

Been that way since I was younger, and ask the avg american if they think most politicians lie and they will probably say yes.

People have become so used to it there is no shock value in it.

7. I am sure you are correct but this seems so much bigger, I mean
there is that stereotype of the lying politician, and it's true to some extent, always has been like you say, but a lie here and there is not the same as this boldfaced, pattern kind of lie IMHO. You know? This is blatant, repetitive lie to your face like a compulsive or habitual liar.

9. I would agree - never seen it this bad, but then
I think people want some things to BE the truth.

Hell we see that here in the 9/11 dungeon. Someone throws up a website saying X about 9/11 and someone else links to it because it supports their beliefs, even if it is an out and out lie.

Did you see the one over there that the Naudet brothers staged their video (they are the ones that followed around the fire dept) and that firefighters knifed to death the fire dept chaplin?

Jesus in a juice bar, what the hell are people thinking???

8. Religion.....that's always been his base.
Face it, religious people have to believe in very obvious paradoxes (paradoxi? :)). They are used to being lied to and not only accept it, they seem to need it. The whole "suffer now and get your reward in the afterlife" lie is only the most obvious one. That helped keep the vast majority of Europeans in grinding poverty for centuries, while the Pope and Cardinals lived like royalty, and promoted such useful programs as the Crusades to keep the pius in line.

They have this pollyannish belief that "God loves them", even when something like Katrina comes down and wipes out all of their neighbors and turns NOLA into a 3rd world combat zone.

They believe that we're doing "God's work" in Iraq.

They get lied to pretty much every Sunday morning, and they eat it up like vitamins.

Our Constitution is a rational document, through and through. It represents the workings of some of the finest political minds of the Enlightenment. That's why the fundies want to revise it into another Bible book. To them, it doesn't make any sense, because it never mentions God.

13. I agree and disagree with your comments. Certainly the
"religious right" want to undo the US Constitution and put the Bible everywhere. Indeed our US Constitution is a rational document because those great political minds knew how disastrous it was to mix politics and religion...first hand. That whole reward in the next life scenario is pounded into people. I don't know if that will be true or not.
I know there is nothing spiritual about poverty and bread lines and such like that.

I am a "religious person" maybe spiritual would be a better description. Faith is different. You are right about the paradox problem too. However, I don't think Katrina came from God at all. I think Katrina was the failure of man; of * and other men/women in his Government. Plus what humans are doing to the Earth caused that storm to be catastrophic, not God. Global warming and a whole string of failures add up to Katrina. IMHO

The religious fundies push that "God's work" bullshit about Iraq and there is no God in that either IMHO. God is not about war and destruction and lies!

Thanks for your thoughtful commentary. Peace.
