The MSM, The Crocodile Hunter and the BULLSHIT Fear-Mongering.
Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 07:20 PM by MarianJack
I hope some people read this because I think I have a hell of a good point. Alas, my threads usually drop to the floor as fast as jenna bush's panties at a frat beer bust.

I was watching the cnn (clueless news network) coverage of the death of Steve Irwin yesterday. At one point the idiotic anchor, after hearing a representative of an aquarium in Georgia speak of how most people who are stung by Stingrays walk away after some medical attention and how there have been about 17 deaths in recorded history, asked how AFRAID we should be. This morning, on the cbs early comedy show, the same question was asked in the moments before we were given the opportunity to listen to katie couric (an invitation that ChicaAzul & I ignored as much as we ignored her broadcast).

Just think, the way the death of a man whose public career was overwhelmingly positive (with a slip of judgment with his infant son) and TOTALLY dedicated to teaching respect, but not fear, of animals, was to again attempt to incite fear. Disgraceful.

I will give them the benefit of the doubt that this may have not been intentional. Unfortunately, just as Tiger Woods will always reach for his putter when the ball lands on the green, our media does certain things AUTOMATICALLY! Equally unfortunately, one of those things is fear-mongering. Steve Irwin would be appalled.

Of course, getting back to cbs, we are dealing with a network that fired on and off camera staff after republican outrage over the coverage of a TRUE STORY. They also (in very small print last week) admitted to doctoring a photo of our beloved Ms. couric to make her look slimmer.

Put these both together and you have an admission that cbs doesn't give a damn about reporting TRUTH! We all can give examples from other networks, but cbs remains my favorite target.

As we have all known for a long time, our news media is not only incompetent and corrupt, but is obviously dedicated to convincing us that this ineptitude and dishonesty is the hallmark of stellar journalism.

ChicaAzul's and my response? It can be phrased in the words of my dear, recently departed mother.

"SCREW 'EM!"

Wise old bird my mom was, eh?

We have to be the media.

PEACE!

1. Why do you watch 'em?
I don't. If someone goes to film a documentary in the wild ocean, they should know what they are doing, as Irwin did. If not, stay the hell away. Simple.

3. I Watch to see what bullshit they're peddling.
CERTAINLY not for information.

I guess that it's a sort of opposition research. I want to know what I'm going to have to counter.

The fact that Irwin knew what he was doing lends credenct to the notion that this was a fluke. He would probably have been the first to admit a mistake. This makes the fearmongering even less justified.

Thanks for the response, votesomemore!

2. I'll have to admit that
when paddling around a Minnesota lake, I don't spend a lot of time worrying about stingrays or even sharks. Perhaps I've been foolish to ignore this risk. :sarcasm:

4. I Don't Think of it in Maine, Either!
It's also too damn cold for them up here, too.

But, I guess i should be a loyal American and be terrified to the point of incontinence! :sarcasm:

5. What I'm seeing is corporate america
saving him as a BRAND NAME. He was on Larry King talking about doing a big Vegas deal, big money there, this guy is a LOGO and half and they will keep his memory alive if only for the MONEY.. people do not matter to them.

I've seen some post about donations he's made and am more forgiving of his ways, but still wasn't all that interested in him.. but millions were and that money needs to keep flowing in.

He's a PROPERTY, like Elvis now, watch them use it.

6. Don't you wish...
...they'd let Elvis, Marilyn Monroe (and probably Steve Irwin, too) just be dead?

7. LOL
actually this country WORSHIPS the dead :)

Think of all the music, movies, etc we watch that have BRANDED dead people in or on them?

Irwin threads are starting to dwindle, I'd posted that the jokes would start within a week, I was wrong, they started the same day (not me, I may not like a dead person, but I save the jokes for later) :)

I'm reviled here now, ignore me at once! :)

9. They Live off of ratings. Quit watching. It's only going to annoy
you, and help their ratings.

11. 3 points, though!
1 I'm not a Neilsen viewer so my watching won't effect the ratings (unless this has changed).

2 The ineptitude has reached a point where I really don't get annoyed. Much as I don't get that angry at bush as much because I know what an idiot he is.

3 I believe that I have to know what horseshit they're throwing so I can counter it to friends & co-workers.

I'd LOVE to ignore them. Most mornings I switch to BBC for real news after seeing what the morning network comedy shows will be passing off as news to most Americans.

Thanks.

12. I used to be a real CNN/MSNBC junkie, but other than CSPAN
or the Daily Show/Colbert, I don't watch much TV news. Quicker to read DU, or hit the BBC on the internet. I do flip by it in the mornings sometime, just to see what shiny things they are waving in our faces.

13. We get BBC @ 5AM on NPR.
Dan Damon is ChicaAzul's & my most trusted anchor.

We also get it on channel 109 here in Augusta. I switch to it after I see what BS the network morning comedy shows will consider to be "news".

Today it was Steve Irwin & Suri Cruise.

Pathetic.

14.  Since I live far from the water
I'd might be scared if one walked up to my door.

(Knock, knock)

"Who's there?"

"Land stingray."

And you're right, I think Steve Irwin would be appalled with this TERRA, TERRA, STINGRAY, STINGRAY, TERRA, TERRA.
