Genius. Pure genius. The "Argument Clinic" skit, the "Pet Store" skit, the 'news' about the Ministry of Silly Walks, and their movies (the French Taunter!!!) ... genius. John Cleese is a demi-god.

20. (giggle)
FINAL EXAM - This is a 'True or False" test and will count for 50% of your final grade. If the answer is True, place a 'T" in the space in front of the question. If the answer is False, as they all are, place an 'F' in the space in front of the question.

These were the instructions on an actual Final Exam I was given in college.

Get it yet?

Huh?

Huh?

Get it yet?

(I didn't get it until after I saw people turning in their exam papers after only about 5-10 mintues taking the exam - 50 VERY difficult questions.)

The statements were real butt-busters ... and I was beating my head against the wall to figure them out. I had maybe 15 of the 50 answered (about 12 or 13 'F') before I reread the instructions. (Boy, did I feel stoooopid.)

27. Same with me
I just can't put someone on ignore. I'm usually just a lurker, so even if I really really disagree with what they said, I'll still want to read it.

Now, ignoring threads, that's a whole different subject. During those days when there's 50 threads about the same thing in GD, I just start shutting them down.

It gave me a LONGER chance to see what you claimed was "like clockwork" ... and no other implication was made. I find the inference insulting. Reading is fundamental. Try it.

57. Maybe "clockwork" was too specific. Certain phases of the moon?
It seems to be a rather regular topic. You would have to at least agree on that. Either in the lounge mostly or ocassionaly here it pops up withe the requisite "I do's" and the myriad of reasons.

I think reading is "Fun-damental!"

58. It does show up
in the lounge.
Nothing mysterious about it. People make 10 or 15 posts, then go away and eat dinner or play spider solitaire or something, come back, and nobody has replied to them. It feels like most of DU has them on ignore.

But clockwork was not too specific. "Here" was too generic, failing to distinguish between GD where the question is rarely asked and the Lounge, where it often is. Except for straddlers like me, those are two different sets of DUers.

I have no problem calling out bullshit and provocative ignorance when necessary or ignoring it by choice when required.

There are a few posters I've been debating putting on ignore since they almost never have anything of any legitimate or intellectual value to say, but I know it would just KILL my curiosity to see a reply that said "ignored" or somethin like that and not know what it said LOL.

42. Never used the "ignore" feature, nor the "hide thread" feature.
I'm perfectly capable of bypassing individual posters and threads on a case by case basis without the aid of an arbitrary mechanism.

I prefer to keep my options open to either engage or let something pass that looks like it's just not worth the effort.

Now if there were a "useless idiot/unbelievable friggin' moron/irritating as hell/if only I could reach through the monitor and slap or throttle you" list, I'm sure mine would be voluminous.

47. Zero.
I've "ignored" threads when they just wouldn't die. I've done multiple "ignore threads" when there is a topic taking over the front page and I'm done with it. I've even "ignored" people when they really pissed me off. That's always temporary, though. I clear the list when I've cooled down, and go back to "manually" ignoring.

The measure of an open society is the ability to allow all opinions to be heard and debated.

One of the things that irks me is that sometimes I come back to a thread, wanting to participate, to respond, only to find it locked.
