Mind you, I didn't ever listen out of spite or anything, I only know his name from DU. I have just never had a chance to catch his show. What was I missing?

...fan base here. I should emphasize that I don't have anything against Malloy particularly-- I just don't like the political talk radio format much. I mean, if Rush Limbaugh was a liberal, he'd still be a shrill gasbag, and that's how I view most talk radio programming. Sorry Malloy fans-- his very success in the format was the reason I didn't care for him much.

I only heard him occasionally, when I happened to be driving somewhere at the proper hours. Normally, I listen to political talk radio in the a.m., and the night time is reserved for CDs and iPods. But from what I heard, he tended to be a little too frenetic for me. That said, I think AAR did kinda shaft the poor guy.

8. Mike helps you feel that you're not alone in your outrage
He's not afraid of calling bullshit when he hears it. He was one of the first talk show host's I just HAD to call. He expressed the outrage that I felt and the pain and sadness I felt for what was happening to this country. He is not for the easily offended. He calls a spade a spade, in no uncertain terms. Until you listen, you'll never know what you're missing. Go to whiterosesociety and hear what you've missed.

31. No.
Mike was ditched in favor of Laura Flanders. AAR paid Mike, but didn't have to pay Laura. She's paid by The Nation.

The less-than-genius Suits at AAR saw that as a win-win situation for them.

17. He's kind of like the Lefts version of Michael Savage
Just a lot closer to the truth. He yells and screams a lot and gets pissed off. He can be witty and funny at times and over the top other times. He is great red meat for many and I agree with almost everything he says, however I think he turns off people close to the middle. I think AAR was right to cancel him and perhaps put in someone with a broader appeal. Lionel or Thom Hartman would be much better for his time slot.

18. A fire-breathing liberal dragon
Mike is raw emotions and very intelligent discussion. He's emotional, and that's a big plus.

He has brought me to uncontrollable laughter and tears as many times as he has activated my anger for the outrageous actions of this administration. His producer (and wife) Kathy Bay Malloy is an audio production magician.

All emotions are in play during a Malloy show. He's a wonder.
Our loss is huge here.

Propaganda and histrionics, just like any other talk radio propagandist. Left or right, it's propaganda, which is far from the truth his audience seeks.

23. Once was enough
I am well aware no one "forces me to listen to him". That is PRECISELY the kind of hyperbole and histrionics I was decrying.

Another DUer on here had to mine one of my posts once to get Malloy to retract a lie he was spreading on one of his anger binges. To his credit, Malloy admitted he was wrong (and even mentioned me by name on the segment), but it makes me wonder how many times he goes off and DOES NOT get corrected.

I value reason over "raw emotion" and "passion" myself, but I am an anomaly that way.

The OP wanted to know if he was missing anything, and I offered my opinion that he was not. Others offered a differing opinion. Both views are equally valid and deserving of space in this thread.

I offered dissent in a calm and reasonable manner. Why is it that some Malloy fans cannot accept that not all lefties are enamored of him or his scorched-earth style of broadcasting? The OP wanted to know what he was missing. I offered my opinion. I think a one-sided set of replies that Malloy is nothing short of the Messiah does not serve the OP well.

33. I don't either......
but,I know the drill around here. Malloy's probably great, but he has no national recognition, say like limpballs, and that greatly disappoints the dem followers that have been looking for a counterpart for him and o'reailly and hannity for years.

We all thought that Franken would get the notoriety that would steal the thunder of oxycontin rush and the anne coulter wannabe's, but it just didn't happen.

I wrote a post that is disappearing as we speak into obscurity, which couldn't have been more clear in saying that it is US, by our personal participation on the lowest, local level of government that will get us the "desired" notoriety we need, but people still pin all their hopes and dreams on radio personalities instead of their own good deeds.

You don't need to sing his praises to me.

My point was, we can't and won't ratchet the rhetoric over the fray of the republicans because we are above them in every way.

We must rise above it, and we can by getting involved in local elections and grassroot efforts.

Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 04:34 PM by flyarm
i was a democratic delegate for the state of fla for the 2004 convention..

i took papers of facts about 9/11 and jeb bush signing executive orders to start martial law 4 days before 9/11 onto the floor of the convention..Frankin came and stood in the Fla delegation...for media attention..

i was sitting next to Janet Reno..and i gave a copy of the execuive order jeb had signed Sept 7th 2001

i gave it to Franken..i told him i was a flight crew for American Airlines..ny base..i asked him to look into it and report on it..

he laughed..he laughed and made fun of this info..Janet Reno asked him as well to look into it..
he laughed it off..and said i am a comedian..not a reporter! he said they pay me for humor ..not to be a journalist..

i was so pissed, i have never listened to him since..he is a joke..but the joke is on anyone who listens to his entertainment..he is no journalist or reporter..he said so himself!

about himself...he is a waste of air time!

he would know or report truth even when it is handed to him on a silver platter!!

However, his show lacks "substance". I listen to him from time to time and I come away with the same feelings.

He straddles the political lines...I guess that's because he has political aspirations himself. Now, THAT'S the truth.
