1. I feel hopeful, but wary.
I will also say that there is a thin line between being wary and being defeatist. I don't want to imply that this poll is defeatist (not enough to judge really), but there are plenty of Diebold and election fraud polls that are pretty defeatist.

It's the difference between "Don't get your hopes up, they are just going to steal it." and "We can win, but we'd better watch the voting pretty damn carefully."

2. I believe it's the truth
They wouldn't say this unless it was true. I think they are doing it to warn Republican voters, but I believe that the Democrats will win.

4. and if there were no such stories, people would be complaining
that the media is "hiding the truth".

I say the more stories about how there is a anti-GOP tidal wave building, the better.

6. I guess the coverage can influence and help the process, I see your point.
Especially seeing as how so many people are lemmings and if they read a dozen articles about Republicans bailing, they might come to a lemming-like conclusion that "hey, you know what? I've actually felt that Bushco sucks for quite some time!" and not vote or vote Dem.

5. I hope the reports don't make voters complacent
Many could surmise, oh well we're going to win any way, why vote.

7. Dem overconfidence has preceded 2000, 2002, and 2004 elections.

It's appalling - all the "feel-good" self-congratulatory chicken-counting ... and then the eggs hatched and the finger-pointing began. Every time. As a non-partisan (anti-partisan) independent liberal, it makes me glad I'm not part of the locker-room rah-rah back-patting delusions. In 30 years in Corporate America (of 45 years working) I ALWAYS detested marketing product launches and rallies. The most brain-dead bullshit imaginable.

Let's make something clear:
Even a single fascist Bushbot in Congress is TOO MANY!
Even a single fascist appeaser on the "left" (a la Lieberman) is TOO MANY.
The "bar" has never been set lower in this country's history ... and the "Democrats" are falling on their faces!
Where's the anger? Where're the national strikes? Where's the support for labor? It's INSANE that the fascist corporate cronies are able to get a single blue-collar vote.

8. Half the chicken counting has been "rolled out" by Repukes themselves
this week. We should be very wary of over-confidence.

9. I Didn't Believe
I didn't believe this country would be stupid enough to elect Reagan.

I did not believe I'd ever see the witch hunt of a sitting President.

I did not believe I would see riots in the streets of Miami, with people halting the democratic process and not being arrested for it.

I did not think the Supreme Court would do anything but insist on the counting of every vote.

I did not believe the Congress would ever walk in lock-step with the Whitehouse independent of the will of the people.

I did not believe our Government would ever adopt a policy of routine spying on its people.

I did not believe I would ever see suspension of habeas corpus.

I did not believe I would ever see an illiterate President.
