Bush dreamed about blowing up Bill Clinton's presidential library
Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 10:57 AM by Quixote1818
At Bill library, Bush sounds sub-versive

By Lloyd Grove

President Bush once daydreamed about blasting Bill Clinton's presidential library to smithereens, according to a new book.

In "How Bush Rules: Chronicles of a Radical Regime," former Clinton aide Sidney Blumenthal recounts a November 2004 visit by Bush and his political guru Karl Rove to the William J. Clinton Library in Little Rock, Ark., on the banks of the Arkansas River.

"Bush appeared distracted and glanced repeatedly at his watch," Blumenthal writes about a presidential tour during the library's dedication. "When he stopped to gaze at the river, where Secret Service agents were stationed in boats, the guide said: 'Usually, you might see some bass fishermen out there.' Bush replied: 'A submarine could take this place out.'"

The author muses: "Was the President warning of an Al Qaeda submarine, sneaking undetected up the Mississippi, through the locks and dams of the Arkansas River, surfacing under the bridge to the 21st century to dispatch the Clinton Library? Is that where Osama Bin Laden is hiding? Or was this a wishful paranoid fantasy of ubiquitous terrorism destroying Clinton's legacy with one blow?"

1. If this is true (and that's a big IF), I'm not surprised
Big Dog and Poppy are pretty good friends, now. Probably upset Big Dog took his place with Poppy.

11. I don't think it's a "big if" -- it was reported widely at the time.
Also, there was a wonderful shot of Bush trying to shove his body into the door ahead of Clinton -- to precede him into the opening of Clinton's own library -- which of course went entirely against protocol. But it shows where Bush's mind was.

Just the idea of Clinton interferes with Bush's idea of himself as King of the Universe. Easier to imagine him . . . gone.

3. Meanwhile, millions of Americans are daydreaming of the time when
Bush and Cheney are impeached, and taken out of office. Oh, happy days!

4. Time to pull out the Bush squeezing between Clinton and the door photo
If there's one shot that shows what a complete snot Dubya is, it's that one.

Anyone have it?

6. Sorry...
but to me anyway, asking "Could a submarine take out this place?" is a big step away from dreaming about blowing up the place. This article is all about publicity for Blumenthal's book.

7. It sounds like a classic freudian slip to me
I don't doubt it crossed his mind at all. Why else would it even come into his mind?

12. I think he would have said "a submarine could take ME out" if that
is what he was thinking. You could be right but the fact that he said "this place" and didn't refer to himself, seems to suggest his sub-conscious had violent thoughts toward Bill Clinton's legacy and less concern for himself.

21. The submarine USS Razorback is visible from there.
Or so I've been told by sub veterans. They're having their national convention there this week.

14. He was twisted that day because 'me first' jerks don't like being usurped
He's a photo of them leaving the library that day, and, well, the body language is screaming at me. It needs a photo caption.
