The answers to many of our questions can be found in the movie "V"

V for Vendetta, the much hyped futuristic look at the bleak futures of England and America under the current trends, is all it is made out to be and more. I've read the hype, and I finally viewed it, and my mind is blown.

Is this movie bold or what? Does it lay it down in the dirt like no other movie? Or am I being too easy on it? Is it just an overblown "Batman" on acid?

The fictional main character answers many of the questions I see posted here often, and wheather I like to admit it or right, the movie made a lot of sense, especially the comparisons with bushco and the neo cons.

I highly recommend it for those who haven't checked it out yet, its not the new liberal bible by any means, but it does address many of the greatest threats to the world posed by fascism left unfettered.

I believe it deserves at least as much praise and perusal DU gave Michael Moore's political film F9-11. Its entertaining and artistic, simple, yet deep at the same time. I suggest it as a learning tool for our cause, not for it's violence, but for it's message, we should not fear our government, it should fear we, the people.

and marvelled at some of the parallels to today. The whole politics of fear campaign: the offer-up-your-liberties-so-we-can protect-you mentality. Scary shit.

2. I'd recommend the Graphic Novel over the Film

More unsettling and deeper. V for Vendetta is a much simplified version. It is my opinion that they essentially castrated the character of V in order to make him more simple and heroic.

The movie is good though and inspiring in a way.

9. I viewed it 3 times at the theater. Matinees, I'm cheap

It is the only movie I have seen more than once at the box office, though I am not a big movie goer.

At the first viewing, I was very impressed but didn't get that lump in my throat until the Stones tune at the end.

Subsequent viewings, having the benefit of knowing the plotline, tended to be more moving than the first. I now watch it on DVD and will get the graphic novel sometime.

...and I don't wish to rag on the movie, but if you haven't read the original comic book, please, PLEASE go and do so. The movie is a fun vehicle to take some of the book's message to the movie-going public, but the comic book itself is (ironically, some might say) for grown-ups.

I have read the graphic novel and I think the movie would reach more people and you can't make a movie long enough to contain all that's in the book. Some people can't sit still to read anything at all. For those who read, yes, I can say without reservation that I always, always, always prefer the book to the movie.

Actually, V is about as challenging to read in terms of use of the medium as a comic book gets... no sound effects, no whizz marks, just a series of very artfully rendered images. You really need to pay attention to the drawings, rather than skimming over them.

12. V for Vendetta is currently my favorite movie.

I have watched it at least 6 times now and it will remain one of my all time favorites. It is a powerful and stirring movie that is also entertaining.
It has many messages, particularly how a nation may degenerate into what Britain had become in the movie and a clear warning to us. I loved the ending and was put to mind in one sense of the ending of The Return of the King at the final battle scene after the ring had been destroyed. For those who have not yet watched V for Vendetta, I highly recommend seeing it and more than once.

17. I just watched it for the first time last night--

I was amazed! I know the story dates to the 80's, but it seemed absolutely tailored to our current situation. I also realized how frightening it is that we now live in a world that is so near the tipping point. I am a little squeamish with blood, so I found some of the scenes, especially the last fighting scene underground to be too graphic for me, but otherwise I would highly recommend this film.
I was also wondering, since I usually consider myself somewhat of a pacifist--are we now nearing a point where violence might be the last resort?

He left it to the readers of his Novel to determine is V a hero, a terrorist, a madman, or is he right?

V is most likely psychotic but then so is the world.

But the message is not Violence begets Violence, the message is take control of your own destiny, throw off the shackles...

53. Even in the movie, V did some very unheroic things.

V is actually somewhat psychotic. He did the mask ruse in the TV control room, which got an innocent schmuck shot, he murdered a whole bunch of people (granted, they deserved it,) he destroyed several monuments, and he tortured Evey, tricking her into thinking she was captured by Creedy's fingerman, black-bagged.

In the graphic novel, he commits quite a few more acts that aren't very nice... The novel goes into V's politics a bit more (in the movie, he's just a revolutionary against fascism, in the novel, he's a full blown anarchist.)

to the things on the peripheral of any scene. It's the quick little nods to what is happening to the US that makes this film really hit home <SPOILERS>>>>>>>>>>> At one point they speak of the civil war that has broken out in and devestated the US and you also see a flag with "Coalition of the Willing" printed across a swastika. There are a lot of little prophetic nods like that and the lead villian is a psycho religius zealot that Bush would be proud of.

45. My partner and I watched it the other night.

He's not nearly so political, so I was shocked when he said he LOVED it. He's commented on it several times since then. It really made an impact on him.

I very much liked it too - especially the scenes where V takes over the airwaves and delivers those speeches. Wouldn't that be great or what?

The dominoes for symbology. I think V realized the one that didn't fall, which he removed and later placed on the switchbox on the train, represented him. He knew there was no place for him now that he'd set a new path in motion. His way was violence to answer violence and it was time for peace and rebuilding.
