Hitler's Desk, Chair Up for Auction
Hitler' Desk, Chair Up for Auction
By VOA News
04 September 2006

A London-based auctioneer says a desk and chair that belonged to Adolf Hitler are up for auction, and could fetch as much as $1 million.

Minas Katchadorian says the oak pieces come from Hitler's luxury apartment in Munich. They were commissioned by a wealthy publisher and Nazi supporter, and delivered to Hitler's apartment in 1929.
When Munich fell to the Allies in 1945, the pieces were used by the U.S. Army after soldiers converted the apartment into a command post.

Katchadorian says the pieces are being sold by a private American collector who wants to remain anonymous. He said the American acquired the pieces in the 1970s from the U.S. government, which had seized them in 1945.

Later this month, a British auction house plans to sell 21 artworks attributed to the infamous Nazi leader.

1. Oh that is creepy, I wonder where he lived in Munich?

I'm channeling Altenbogenhausen. A very ritzy section along the Isar River. Will have to do some research on that...

Nope my second choice was more correct, off of Ludwigstrasse, Prinzregentenplatz 16, near Odeonsplatz and the Englischer Garten, near all the official buildings and monuments. That really gives me the willies because I have been on that very street, but I am not sure why, maybe on the bus or tram?

9. Or WILL be anyway...........
I'm sure GWB won't be able to pass up the chance to own Hitler's very desk and chair. Of course it will be through shadow buyers, many levels removed from the giggling murder monkey himself. Then he can put Saddam's pistol in the desk drawer, along with Geronimo's skull, and feel like a real MAN!
I wouldn't put it past him one little bit.

4. That Munich apartment had to be the one he shared with his literal
and proverbial niece, Geli Raubel, who committed suicide in that apartment when Hitler prevented her from leaving him.

10. Some questions i have about this:
(assuming there is no fraud involved here)

1) How would a person legitimately and "anonymously" acquire historical objects like this from the u.s. gov't?

2) Would it be in the same manner that someone "acquired" the NASA tapes of the lunar landing?

3) Does our gov't routinely sell or auction historical items and i just don't know about it?

14. The same people buying Hitler's artifacts will someday buy Bush's
Only in Bush's case, the artworks will be finger paintings.

18. Maybe Bush will buy it to add to his collection (Saddam's gun) and
it would be nice to have something that belonged to his hero.
