What is this IDIOTIC PRATTLE on Air America New York?
Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 07:01 AM by latebloomer
Just turned on the radio and subjected myself to 15 minutes of utter drivel between the 2 new morning co-hosts, Sam Greenfield and Armstrong Williams (this in the slot that the great Rachel Maddow used to be in.)

They chatted about women's tennis and how a lot of gay women look like men and have more testosterone, what kind of people get selected for "Survivor", etc.

There was NO political content whatsoever. It sounded like a conversation you'd try to drown out with headphones if two not-too-bright people were sitting behind you on the bus. Forget the politics, it's not even interesting radio!

WTF is going on with Air America? Why did they change stations in NYC, anyway? I had thought for better reception, but the new station is not even as strong as the old one. I had read that they had to take this already-existing morning show as part of the deal. This is utter suicide. I will not be listening to the "morning drive" show ever again.

I can't tell you how mad and disappointed I am, coming on top of the firing of Mike Malloy, who had already been "disappeared" from the NY lineup months ago, to be replaced by the inane "Satellite Sisters".

3. I am very disappointed with the New York (1600 AM) schedule
they better get their act together or they will loose listeners, I understand that Rachel Maddow will be starting Sept. 18th, if that helps any. God AAR you reap what you sow!!!!!!

5. I didn't think any station could come in worse
than 1190 but this one does. Mostly lots of static. I was hoping the station would be better reception wise. Though with this programming I guess it doesn't really matter.:-(

4. "and the beat goes on" Sonny and Cher
Air America Radio.....so yesterday that it is beyond sad.

They will never be able to run with the big dogs in the football game of talk radio by running a Prevent Defense with scabs while sitting the the first team down on the bench.

{Refrain}
The beat goes on, the beat goes on
Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain
La de da de dee, la de da de da

Charleston was once the rage, uh huh
History has turned the page, uh huh
The miniskirt's the current thing, uh huh
Teeny bopper is our newborn king, uh huh

{Refrain}

The grocery store's the supermart, uh huh.
Little girls still break their hearts, uh huh.
And men still keep on marching off to war
Electrically they keep a baseball score

{Refrain}

Grandmas sit in chairs and reminisce
Boys keep chasing girls to get a kiss
The cars keep going faster all the time
Bums still cry, "Hey buddy, have you got a dime"

15. That's what I thought too
THE Armstrong Williams, the pundit-for-hire that got paid by Bush? On Air America?

Have they been taken over by Rove? Jeez!

7. Not an AAR show
You heard WWRL's drive-time morning show. It is a local NY show. WWRL catered to a minority audience and they wanted to keep this program. They do talk politics at times, other times it is just idle chat.

I don't know why AAR couldn't make a deal with WLIB to stay there but that is history. WWRL has a much better daytime signal although at night they have to cut power where WLIB actually gets to increase power at night. Even still, WWRL has a better nighttime signal here in NNJ because of the antenna pattern.

The truth is AAR is half a network at best.

10. now that's interesting they have a better signal in the AM hours
than at night, you think they would want more people to listen to them at night, bad move on AAR part, but they have been a lot of bad moves lately haven't they???

14. Not their fault
Blame it on the FCC. Long ago, stations were basically locked into whatever patterns they now have.

If there's no threat to interference with other stations, sometimes signals can be adjusted. This is not the station's choice.

And aside from WLIB, WWRL was probably the next best station available in New York.

9. Those 2 are on Air America now?!?!?!?!?
Ugh. That show was on some other NY area station. It used to be just Sam Greenfield who I could enjoy now and again despite his reedy, high pitched speaking voice. But once they felt compelled to add "balance" by adding Williams I had no interest. What the hell is the story with them adding that show on AAR? Oh yeah, let's get rid of Mark Maron and Sam Seder and whoever else and add a conservative (Williams) and a moderate (Greenfield). Is this still the work of that Danny Goldberg guy?

11. Not exactly
It's more like AAR is on their station. I don't believe AAR carries the show, correct me if it is carried to other markets.

It really isn't such a bad show. I've listened to it now and then. I've always liked Sam Greenfield and Williams isn't an obnoxious conservative.

Remember...this is not AAR, it is the local station, WWRL.

As far as power...the FCC determines allowable power for each station based primarily on limiting interference to other stations sharing the frequency. Reception of any lower-powered AM station situated on one of the crowded channels is a crapshoot at night.

12. Well, it might not be bad radio
if you're used to listening to Rush all the time.

But as a replacement for Rachel Maddow's morning show, it is completely unacceptable.

16. They still carry the AAR advertising and promos during
this crap. It is most unfortunate.
Think about it, when do most people listen to the radio? Drive time.

13. What did you expect from Payola Williams?
The Bush Crime Family actually signs his checks.

I mean, everyone knows that morning drive isn't an important time slot, and that NYC is only 1 city. That is unless you actually want people to listen.
