The Democratic Vision - 6-Point Plan for 2006
Edited on Mon Sep-04-06 04:32 PM by peanutbrittle
A bold new direction for a secure America

Together, America Can Do Better

The Democratic Party is committed to keeping our nation safe and expanding opportunity for every American. That commitment is reflected in an agenda that emphasizes the security of our nation, strong economic growth, affordable health care for all Americans, retirement security, honest government, and civil rights.

6-Point Plan for 2006

1 Honest Leadership & Open Government

We will end the Republican culture of corruption and restore a government as good as the people it serves, starting with real ethics reform.

2 Real Security

We will protect Americans at home and lead the world by telling the truth to our troops, our citizens and our allies. We believe in a strong national defense that is both tough and smart, recognizing that homeland security begins with hometown security.

3 Energy Independence

We will create a cleaner, greener and stronger America by reducing our dependence on foreign oil, eliminating billions in subsidies for oil and gas companies and use the savings to provide consumer relief and develop energy alternatives, and investing in energy independent technology.

4 Economic Prosperity & Educational Excellence

We will create jobs that stay in America and restore opportunity for all Americans, starting with raising the minimum wage, expanding Pell grants and making college tuition tax deductible. We also believe in budget discipline that reduces our deficit.

5 A Healthcare System that Works for Everyone

We will join 36 other industrialized nations in making sure everyone has access to affordable health care, starting by fixing the prescription drug program and investing in stem cell and other medical research.

6 Retirement Security

We will ensure that a retirement with dignity is the right and expectation of every single American, starting with pension reform, expanding saving incentives and preventing the privatization of social security.

3. I tend to use left handed logic (since I'm left handed I guess)
Those are six very good goals and the most important thing about them; the republican party wants nothing to do with any of this liberal nonsense. The only thing they promote is fear.

Thanks for posting.

4. so when are they going to start telling the truth about why we're in Iraq?
they did a good job of exposing the lies, but when it comes to telling the truth, the fucking crickets are chirping.

6. it's a bit vague and tepid. Those are almost formulations GOP could say
with a straight face too.

For example, for economics, why not say stop outsourcing and trade deals that hurt workers both here and abroad? Likewise, supporting dictators abroad and undermining even democratically elected governments that try to raise wages and living conditions for their people hurts Americans because the cheaper labor is elsewhere, the greater the incentive for business to go there.

Why not say you want single payer for health insurance? And if they don't mean that, say exactly what you are going to do instead. On prescription drugs, it would help to say that any corporation that gets R&D money from taxpayers can have their prices regulated.

On security, it would help to say that we will defend America in part by not offend the rest of the world to enrich a very few. Most of our problems in the Middle East stem from decades of foreign policy that put oil companies aheaf of democracy and even the safety of the American people. That must end. We should be known for respecting the outcome of elections no matter whose economic ox is gored.

7. It's happening this time.
:woohoo:
Dems are going to fight the fight.

This is precisely what the party has to do this election. Six points are easily digestable by the electorate. Furthermore, they hit *all* the big hot buttons.

I still see a big turnover in both the House and Senate this time. A program like this one can bring it about. This year is a perfect political storm. The Dem program fits precisely into the huge gap that ChimpCo and their minions have left. The result is that the GOP will have very little wiggle room.

The people want change. The Democratic Party's program is to insure that the electorate will see the Dems as the agents of that change. The result is inevitable. The extent to which we keep focussed on driving this message home is the extent to which ChimpCo doesn't stand a chance in November.

We've got them right where we want them. The only thing left is for the GOP to either agree with the Dems, or campaign on "stay the course". Both lose.

9. "America Can Do Better" is a stale, hackneyed phrase
I hate it. Kerry spouted it all during the last campaign.

Can't they find a strategist worth a dime to develop a new slogan??!!

10. This is just...
election year pandering...

I want to see HOW they plan on doing these things and I want to see REAL leadership, starting with a demand for the impeachment of BushCo et al, a immediate and complete withdrawal from Iraq, An Immediate cessation of any government money going to any company profiting from this boondoggle in Iraq, as well as punishing those companies, Serious reforms to our voting sytems, etc...

I could go on and on, but the above bologna is vague election year bullshit.

12. If you would take the time to read it ...
maybe you would have a different opinion. Go look at http://www.democrats.org/agenda.html and make sure to drill down through the links on each point.

No, you won't find the exact language of the bills that the Dems plan to introduce if they get control of one of the houses, but this platform seems specific enough to draw a clear distinction with the status quo.
