This picture comes from Octafish's
picture thread from Saturday: "Hey Rumsfeld! Who's your Nazi?"
But I thought it deserved special attention. Unlink the more widely distributed photo of Bush where he gazes down with apparent concern over the fates of all those nonmillionaires...
...this first photo shows Bush in a less posed moment. His concerns seems to be with the photographer, or with some other handler telling him how to pose, how to make it look like he cares. In that effort, the more published picture is clearly effective propaganda---except that Bush is showing his compassion from a quickie flyover. For me, anyway, the first photo reinforces the notion of a detached, insulated Bush. But at least he looks like he would give a damn if he had to actually go down there and meet people.
Later he had to do exactly that, and again he appeared almost human in his displays of compassion. But the essense of the man is in that unpublicized photo. "How's my hair? What do you want me to look at? Am I gonna have to actually meet those people? Someone better get me some sneakers, cause I don't want my new pennyloafers getting wet. Who's got my script?"
And, inevitably, "Why does this shit always have to happen on my vacation time?"
