Any kind hearted DUers out there that could donate for me so I can get my
star back? You can think of it as a week early BDay present for me if you like and I would be ever so grateful as right now I can't search or respond to replies to posts I made as that function no longer works for me.

Yes, it is humiliating to have to ask this on a public board and yes, after my house sells and I am out of these killer ARM payments I will be able to donate. Right now things are very, very tight.

Thanks in advance as I hang my head in shame for being one of those irresponsible idiots that refinanced and got an ARM when I ran into financial difficulties due to health issues a few years ago.

5. I will try not to be, as I have been a very independant single mother for
the last 17 years and have somehow managed to raise my son and get him into college. I guess I just wasn't expecting his books to cost over $450 for his first term, on top of a few hundred additional dollars for gas as I move stuff out of my house, and a few hundred extra per month fffor my mortgage.

I am so hoping the real estate market has not totally crashed here in Northern CA, but it looks like buyers have 4 times the number of houses to choose from and I am having anxiety attacks that my house will not sell. House sales are only down about 5%, so the market is still holding somewhat steady.

I am getting two rooms ready to rent out in October if there are no prospective buyers by then...that should help ease the financial crunch I am in.

but I can be counted on the next time around if you are still in those straights (and I sure hope you aren't). Send me a PM so you can bookmark me.
Yeah, college books are a b**** to pay for, outrageously high, IMHO.

8. thanks anyway-if my house doesn't sell in a year, then the entire economy
will have completely gone to hell (I know we are close) and there will probably be massive rioting in the streets and no internet......

9. would you consider helping me get my star back?
I know you don't want to hear my hard luck story but recently I lost my star (expired). No job, soon to be dragged into housing court to face eviction and what I missed most of all with that star was th ability to search the DU archives.

If you can help I'd appreciate it. If not I'll still be your friend. I should have started my own pauper's thread. Thanks again Lifelong Protestor.

My apologies to fed-up for hitching a ride on his thread..

24. I don't want to take credit here cuz I think someone else
got to you, DemInDistress, before I did, so I moved on to Wiley! Anyway, it doesn't matter who did what, I am just happy that there are such good folks on this board that everyone who needed a star got one in a matter of minutes! Ain't that a kick?
And I think I just posted this to the wrong message ;) but you get the idea.

18. Hey no problem!
and I'm a sister, and I have been dirt poor myself, so do not let yourself think you are judged by your financial status, at least not here.
Glad I could help, just pay it forward is all. :pals:

25. I just want to thank everyone on this entire thread--some for their courag
in asking for help in these difficult times, knowing that the wonderful people of DU would be there for them, and the instant generousity of our DU sisters and brothers.

whenever I feel disheartened by the news of the day, coming here restores my faith in the world, and today was a perfect example of it. May all of you wonderful, caring, loving, involved people here on DU continue to be the beacons of light that I see daily, and may you all be blessed in whatever ways you need and desire.

26. I'd like to thank the kind soul who gave me a star during the fundraiser!
Without even asking, my star magically appeared one day! That really made me feel good, since I've pretty much given up ever being able to donate to anything, anymore, and ya feel pretty naked posting here without making any contribution.

Sure is nice to be a part of such a community. The generosity is much appreciated, whoever you are!
