Some CBS Affiliates Worry Over 9/11 Show
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20060903/D8JTKED81.html

So far, about a dozen CBS affiliates have indicated they won't show the documentary, another dozen say they will delay it until later at night and two dozen others are considering what to do. On Friday, Sinclair Broadcasting became the latest company to say it was delaying the broadcast until after 10 p.m. on its stations in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Portland, Maine, saying it was concerned it could face fines.

The announcement came as the Tupelo, Miss.-based American Family Association readied its 3 million members to flood the FCC and CBS with complaints after the documentary airs. "This isn't an issue of censorship. It's an issue of responsibility to the public," said Randy Sharp, director of special projects for the group, which describes itself as a 29-year-old organization that promotes the biblical ethic of decency.

The documentary first aired on the six-month and one-year anniversaries of the Sept. 11 attacks on the trade center and the Pentagon. This latest showing, on the eve of the five-year anniversary, includes new interviews with many of the firefighters featured in the original, describing how their lives have changed.

Sharp promised on Friday that his organization would flood the FCC with complaints, saying nearly 198,000 people already had told the FCC they want the agency to "enforce the law should CBS decide to break it." CBS is feeling the heat. "Even if all 206 stations decide between now and the 10th to air the program live, what we have gone through for the past two or three weeks is overwhelming evidence of the chill facing broadcasters," Franks said.

4. I haven't seen it before so I don't know how it leans, though
I should expect it to lean toward the dark side. My point is the complaining about language rather than letting the people decide whether they should watch it or not. A warning at the beginning and during commercials should be sufficient to warn anyone about language that may be offensive to some people.

I get sick and tired of these religious factions telling me what I can and can't see. My rant was in no way an endorsement of this or any other TV program. I don't trust a thing I see on there.

8. This is the Naudet brothers documentary...
...it was filmed from the view of the fire fighters on 9/11. There's really no spin in it.

Amazing, chilling footage. :(

11. This is an incredible documentary
Edited on Mon Sep-04-06 02:43 AM by Fighting Irish
CBS has shown it a few times, and it is currently out on DVD (I own a copy myself). It's called simply "9/11".

Backstory: Two brothers, both French filmmakers, were taping a documentary about rookie firefighters in NYC. As they were following the firefighters on a routine gas leak, they heard a strange noise, aimed the camera up, and caught what is probably the only footage of the first plane hitting. The subject of the documentary immediately changed.

They showed the firefighters in the towers, and all the chaos going on around them. Bodies could be heard hitting the pavement. The burden put upon the firefighters and rescue workers could be felt by anyone watching this film.

An amazing piece of work, and I'm appalled that the fundies are getting worked up about this. This documentary is about the ultimate obscenity, and that obscenity certainly isn't a few swear words. The message of this film is much more powerful than a few words that everyone on the planet has already heard. This movie is about humanity, something the fundies wouldn't understand.

5. Thousands Dead & They're Worried About The F-Word?
This is what got me when there was all the controversy over airing "Saving Private Ryan" - the protest because soldiers under duress used profanity.

In my opinion, what was really obscene was the depiction of soldiers getting their heads blown off.

We have some messed up priorities in this country.

7. Absolutely an example of republican logic
Murder? Sure...Show brains blown out on the evening news.

Rape? Talk about it during daytime TV.

Sex? BANNED and fines result.

Cursing? FCC license revocation and massive fines.

Where exactly is this Taliban group based again? I think they may be on the move.

Really is strange the Repubes hate the Taliban so much.

They are so alike.

9. Except for the whole 9/11 thing, what IS indecent about this?
I don't get how this does not pass the decency police? Can anyone tell me? Thank you. I really don't get this problem.

13. Someone said "Holy Shit!" when they saw the first plane hit the
north tower. That I recall.

But overall I don't remember the language on the program being particularly worthy of this "decency police" sort of nonsense.

18. That is indecent?
god damn it all to hell, "holy shit" is in no way indecent. Even Our Great Mr.bush said "shit" and they didn't fine the stations over that. Bet they just want to have propagandish 9/11 crap.

19. gutless assholes at CBS, just run the damn thing
they are worried about a few cusswords said by firemen during one of the most horrifying acts in history?

It's a fabulous documentary. Not only is it appropriate for television, it should be shown to highschool students for history class.
