Armitage's role in Plame leak does NOT take burden off Libby and Rove.
Good for Media Matters for staying on top of this. They are just plain still guilty, and Armitage is just another addition. Use the contact links at Media Matters to inform.

Media figures repeat false claim that Armitage role in Plame leak exonerates Libby and Rove

"Summary: Numerous media figures have asserted that a recent report purportedly identifying former deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage as Robert Novak's original source for Valerie Plame's identity as a CIA operative prove that Karl Rove and I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby were not involved in the leak of her identity. However, Armitage's role as Novak's first source is not inconsistent with Rove's and Libby's involvements in the leak -- both were original sources of the information for two other reporters."

1. Do we really believe that Armitage actually had any role it this?
I think he is a fall guy and had nothing to do with this. Novak conveniently stated that it was past time for his source to out himself. Next thing we hear is Armitage saying he must have been the one. I think it is BS.

3. Didn't he say he did? Thought I read that.
I like that Media Matters is saying it does not matter.

I think the media is spinning this out of importance.

4. Thanks for the post. Media Matters is right,
and it's disgusting how the media seems to have bought the Bush spin, hook, line, and sinker.

Even if we assume that Armitage was ONE of the leakers, it doesn't matter if he was the first or not. Libby and Rove were out there leaking, in a coordinated manner. Sooner or later some other reporter would have gone with the story. And even if they didn't, that was clearly the Libby/Rove intention.

5. Thanks. The MM post is so long, I'm afraid people won't read it all.
I found it hard to follow all of it.

Yes, Armitage is just something else to muddle stuff up. They have doing that for years.
