1. It points out the hypocrisy of the little creep.
How he gets the nutso right wing all stirred up about the 'dangerous homosexual agenda' and how they have to be stopped at all costs when a member of his family is gay.

2. I just find it a bit odd
Rove has used the gay issues as wedge issues when his own father is gay.

3. It proves that family comes second to agenda and ideology.
To these people, Ideology means EVERYTHING!

Remember, Dick Cheney's daughter is gay and he wants gay marrige banned.

Jebber's daughter's a cokehead and he pushed for harsher drug laws.

36. Actually, Cheney doesn't oppose gay marriage.
His own words: "With respect to the question of relationships, my general view is that freedom means freedom for everyone. People . . . ought to be free to enter into any kind of relationship they want to."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A29862-2004Aug24.html

I think it's distasteful for anyone to judge another based on their sexual preferences, or the preferences of a family member. Period.

9. J. "Ellen" Hoover denied there was any such thing as Organized Crime...

allegedly because they had photos of him in Drag, wearing a red dress at a party in a hotel (Plaza, I think) in NYC. Hoover was a gay cross-dresser that lived with the #2 man at the FBI.

totally about His hypocrisy and the fact that He uses people personal lives for political Games.

27. Actually, it's totally possible to hate your step-father.
So he's not necessarily hypocritical -- I mean, he totally IS, in that he uses ideas I don't think he actually believes in in order to gain power -- but I don't think his step-father means anything, either way.

7. It is the same as the AGNOSTICISM
Rile up the Jesus freaks...for George. Not that you believe that shit, personally.

Rile up the gay haters....for George. Not that you believe that shit, personally.

His plans. His hypocrisy.

But he waited till stepdaddy (beloved father figure) was DEAD before he shit on what the guy was.

That's part of the curious dynamic. It certainly wasn't a Beaver Cleaver upbringing. He didn't know that the stepfather was a 'step' for the longest time, either.

23. Yep, it's a real "soap opera" kind of life story
IIRC, there's also a first failed marriage in there, somewhere (him, I mean).

He didn't even meet his biological daddy until he was in his forties. Dunno if HE is still alive or not!

He was quite creepy and nefarious in his college days. Just a lousy human being for the bulk of his life, it would seem.

29. He was adult when that happened
He was close to, if not, off to college.

The gay stepdad was his focus, not the mom. He grew up focusing on the SENIOR ROVE. His name would not even have BEEN Rove had not it been for the gay stepdad.

He did not even realize the gay stepdad was first, not DAD, and second, GAY, until well past his formative years.

and she has nice shoes and clothes...and my stepfather was a closet homosexual. We didn't find out until 10-12 years ago...after they divorced. Now I understand so many things.

Who cares what Rove's stepfather does.

He could boink a toilet paper roll or a toaster for all I care.

But it's all politics. Just like Marycheney - who likes to be out only when it benefits her; even if it's common knowledge to all, for ANYONE who isn't her to say it in passing, she'll spit on them like it's no tomorrow.

21. Rove's step-father is gay
I think it may give an interesting view of how Rover's brain works. Rove's mother committed suicide not long after her husband left her to become openly gay. Perhaps Rove's anti-gay agenda is some ... well, and issue for a therapist, perhaps.

It does leave his opinions on gay marriage -- or gay anything -- null and void as far as I'm concerned. Perhaps others will feel the same way.

24. Actually, I don't think that is the case, because he waited until his
(quite beloved, if reports are to be believed) stepfather was DEAD before he rolled out the gay-hatin' agenda.

I think with him, it's all pragmatic. He doesn't let pesky issues like ethics and integrity and personal beliefs and attitudes get in the way of his agenda, which consists of gaining and holding on to power...!

31. Just the hypocrisy
Edited on Sun Sep-03-06 11:37 PM by sgcase
*snip*

With Super Tuesday still a few days away, the Bush-Kerry race has officially begun. And if Bush and White House strategist Karl Rove and their allies on the religious right have their way, gay marriage will be the ugly centerpiece of the coming campaign. :puke:

32. Absolutely Nothing Whatsoever.
This is the first I've heard of it, but I guess there was some story on it and as usual some DU'ers took it and ran with it like as if it actually had some value or relevance to some political situation, even though the average voter would turn to them and say "Who the hell cares, grow up!" right?

I'm with ya. Though I don't know the details of the story, based on your thread title I can say with confidence that Rove's stepfather being gay has nothing to do with anything and is quite petty and unproductive as a topic of discussion.

35. The new book coming out on Rove states his step-father was gay.
Edited on Mon Sep-04-06 01:20 AM by AZBlue
I'm with you on your opinion of it - and saddened that DU'ers would try to "use this against" him. As if there's not enough out there already against Rove - why look for something that's a non-issue (and will definitely backfire)? It's just so distasteful - and against everything the Dems stand for!

Apparently the book also states he's agnostic - to me, that's something that can and should be manipulated against him and George "I talk to Jesus" Bush. Wouldn't the born-again bloc that supports W be interested to know Karl's ideology? That would expose his hypocrisy - not his having a gay step-father.
