I just paid to have a message hand delivered
to my representative in congress. www.congress.org. Has anyone here done this before and is it worth the $8.95?

I am already questioning the fact to ensure or hopefully ensure that my message reaches my representative, I have to PAY even though they are already suppose to be working for me.

1. It will damn sure get a response!
A personalized, to the point of your letter response. I have sent them registered mail before it is effective. If the issue is worth $8.95 to be sure they read it, it surely is. Once they know you are serious you tend to get a lot more responses too.

2. Hmmm. I don't know.
It seems to me that if some minimum-wage bicyclist messenger showed up with, say, a couple hundred of these "important hand-delivered" messages, they'd probably be placed in "the pile" along with all the other rantings from unimportant constituents who haven't ponied up the required thousands of dollars in "campaign contributions."

I suspect a thousand-dollar bill taped to the envelope would be a better idea if you want your "important message" taken seriously.

. . .carry as much, or more, weight.

Legislative Assistants are listed on the Staff Members page. When you get to your member's page on Congress.org, look for the "Staff Members" button under the photo.

If you don't have easy access to a Fax machine, you can send one free via TPC Fax or sign up for a FAX service like efax (which runs $17 a month -- only worth it if you plan to send a lot of faxes).

You can send the cover page attention the LA with a letter to your Congressman (something like this) or address both the cover page and the letter to the LA.

And, it never hurts to request a meeting with the Congressman or a staffer at his or her local office. Such requests from "citizen lobbyists" are relatively rare, and as such, are significant events.

Probably more info than you bargained for, but Congress is our voice, and the battle for our national soul must play our there.

I may just do that with the fax too. I wanted to try this out and see what happens for future reference.

My rep is a pseudo repube anyway. Matheson (D-UT)
