A Karl Rove one-two punch?
Is this a Karl Rove one-two punch? First you let out something bad for your side, then the next day you let out something good for your side on the same subject? If not, why the spate of stories on Saturday about bin Laden still not having been found? Who tickled the media to write about that?

Al-Qaida leader eludes coalition forces
The al-Qaida terror camps are gone from Afghanistan, but the enigma of Osama bin Laden still hangs over these lawless borderlands where tens of thousands of U.S. and Pakistani troops have spent almost five years searching for him.

No. 2 al-Qaida leader in Iraq arrested
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraqi forces have arrested the second most senior operative in al-Qaida in Iraq, and the group now suffers from a "serious leadership crisis," the national security adviser said Sunday.

2. I agree with you...

...that this is most likely a ploy. For sure.

I've also wondered about the terrorist warnings that always turn out to be nothing.

I'm wondering if these aren't psy-ops. It's easy to assume that the Reps are trying to cultivate fear.
I think fake terror warnings that don't materialize serve a deeper purpose.

When there is a warning about a terrorist attack or group (NY subway bombings, the yahoos arrested in Fla, etc)
people DO get afraid and concerned. 9/11 is emotionally stoked all over again. Then--when it's discovered that
the fear was for nothing--certain things happen. Democrats openly talk more about the Republicans using fear
to control us. Democrats also chastise the Republicans more for their methods of handling terrorism. Furthermore,
people start exhaling and identifying with the Democrats--and getting a bit ticked with the Republicans.

I've always wondered if this isn't by design. The Republicans are slowly making the Democrats the anti-"fight terrorism" party--the party that everyone turns to when things are ok. However, when something bad DOES happen (MIHOP, LIHOP)--the Democrats will be positioned as terrorism naysayers and the Republicans will be vindicated
for crying "terror wolf" several times. Then, the Reps will roll out the Democrat soundbytes--which show the
Democrats chastising the Reps during the terror plots that never materialized.

Just some random thoughts. You always have to look/think at a deeper level with these thugs. I feel that
the Reps have been ramping up toward a big culmination--for quite a while.

3. the second story claims al-Q leadership present and active in Iraq
and may be an effort to bolster The Occupant's crusade to not cut and run from 'terrorishm' or they'll follow us home, like lost puppies (as Stephanie Miller says).
