Are you ever insulted by how stupid they think we all are?
I am, and I'm not the brightest bulb, but I still get offended at how stupid they think we are and how they accordingly treat us.

When I say 'we' I mean all Americans, and let's face it, many of us are quite dim, we here excluded of course. Most don't even realize they are alive, literally, and most accept any bullshit that comes down the pike.

But some folks have half a brain, that's twice as many brains as the president, and some folks are starting to get offended at how stupid they think we ALL are.

They think we are so stupid we'll just accept the disastrous wars and be happy and shop. As they strip away all our rights we should just thank them and be happy and shut up and consume.

They feed us bumpersticker slogans that they think should placate our stupid asses, like, 'stay the course', 'freedom is on the march', 'iraq is where all the world's terrorists reside', etc., and we're supposed to lap it up like third graders.

Does this ever annoy you? The constant looking down on us like we are all stupid and deserve it?

1. I think it's even more insulting...
...that they don't care how stupid we are.

I wrote a thread a few weeks ago about a book called "Your Call is Important to Us: The Truth About Bullshit." In it, the author writes about the difference between a liar and a bullshitter, in partucular the relationship that both have to the truth. The liar cares about the truth. They care about it very much; so much so that they go to great lengths to hide it. The bullshitter, on the other hand, doesn't care about the truth at all. It doesn't matter a bit if you believe them or not. Just like the recorded 'your call is important to us' messages we all hear when put on hold for hours by companies that don't care if we live or die, the bullshitter just spews out a cliche and then moves onto something they do care about.

For the purposes of comparison, Richard Nixon was a liar; Chimpy is a bullshitter.

So, if you were insulted before, I suggest you get much more insulted now. I know I am.

2. Great point, bullshitters aren't even concerned for the truth
I admire a good liar, and a really good one will fool you, a lousy liar I have less respect for, and a bullshitter, well, their shit just don't work on us.

20. that is pretty much Frankfurt's point in his book "On Bullshit"
I just recommended it earlier today

This is an important concept that is raised and should be remembered when evaluating information.

I think a lot of times Bush knows the truth and ignores it to advance some other objective that either gives him more power or wealth. So sometimes he is a liar and sometimes he is just bullshit but don't ever think Bush doesn't have an agenda.

4. I think there is a difference in thinking we are stupid vs they are right
I think they really think they are going to educate and do what is right for us. And they are the only one that are right. You have to try banging your head on a brick wall if you think you are ever going to get to people who are sure they are right. Even proof does not get to people like that. Plus many think it is a God giving thing. Besides that they are a lot of them and have the power to force their thinking or the results of their thinking on us. Now that is a foe to go up to.Knowing your right has taking over countries and started wars. This is not the GOP of my father's day.

15. Some truth in that I think unless we do as they say
It is interesting people to go up against as they do get something in their mind and not one thing will change it. I guess we call them zealots but we also run into them in every day life. It is almost as if we scare them as we have opened minds. I think they are often so unsure they grab ahold of something and will not let go. For some odd reason you do not find them in this party as much so guess that is what makes us seem weaker. I feel sure if they get the upper hand that they will be reading a Bible at my back door and I had better do as they want. My family came from the Puritans and that is just how they were. Course these leaders are wrapping them self in the Bible and flag. Makes it even harder to fight them. Odd as they them self will be the ones to go down if they do not follow the correct path the leaders want and in history we know that gets to be a very narrow line.

8. No - I think they expect you to be offended..and the parts of their
base who have been taught to be knee-jerk will take what they say literally.

I have conduction aphasia. I have to listen hard when I talk to people...I don't get to judge as I listen..my mind is too busy picturing the conversation. I judge what I've said and what was said to me later if I can. And sometimes people play dumb with me verbally and I miss it. I use print and blog to overcome my disability.

So just assume that when * speaks he wants you to have a different (scary) experience all the while the base who are functionally aphasia (BUSH IS ALL GOOD, He is a man of integrity, He is a shining light)..well they are beyond judging him when he speaks. Be thankfully you can judge and don't have that childlike lack of judgment. You are still an adult...and you don't have the 'virus of the mind'...

By offending you as they create a 'positive impression' in the minds of their base..they polarize the country no? They wedge. Make it unlikely that someone from their base would ever move to the left. Or that you would ever slap a moderate on the back and jovially say: my, my, my you voted for bush last time? That is hilarious" (in other words you being at the end of the scale where Bush is concered separates you from the moderates who think Bush may not be all evil.. just misguided and wrong). I think the point of polarization is to wedge the middle class apart into haves and have-nots. So the GOP can be assured of future victories. 30 year Rovian Empire and all.

21. Our entire culture insults me
Everytime someone tries to convince me that:

Trickle-down economics works

Bush is not a liar

Clinton allowed 9/11 to happen

Some supreme being exists

American Idol is worth watching

Country 'music' is worth anything

SUVs are safe

Religion is based in reality

or there is anything compassionate about conservatism

22. I think they know that some of us are smart enough and feel
so arrogantly confident that they are in control of the sheeple, that we can say what we will and they can afford to ignore it.

That's what makes me so sure they are cynical, and don't really believe what they are saying, and are just saying it to control the masses.
