Remember when the debt clock stopped?
I remember how all the right wingers started complaining about paying off the debt too soon. An article from the archives at CNN:

http://archives.cnn.com/2000/US/09/07/debt.clock/

"When the public debt was rising at the rate it was a decade ago, it was a great idea. But now it just becomes a basis for complacency," said Lou Crandall, who follows Treasury financing at the Wall Street research firm Wrightson & Associates.

Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Al Gore has outlined a plan that he says would eliminate the debt by 2012.

Senior economic advisers to Texas Governor and Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush agree with the principle of paying down the debt but have not committed to a specific date for eliminating it.

These people are really insane.

2. I recall they also used to have signs up in the well in the House.
I think, I am sorry to say, that lots of Dem. like to bring home the bacon just like the GOP. And these extra stuff seems to be doing it. Course they never were as good at it. I can recall when Kennedy ran he said a new Post Office would go up here and there and there sure was a run in new ones when he got into office, That would be penny anti stuff for the GOP. It is scary to watch one of those debt clocks move on their sites. Like the gas at the stations.
