Rent-to-Own Congressmen and predatory lenders...
September 1 -
There has to be a real special place in hell for people who rip-off our fighting men and women. A report on the Predatory lending practices to members of the Armed Forces was released this month and, almost amusingly, one of the offenders was the Texas-based Rent-A-Center.

The Rent-A-Center folks take their rent-to-own philosophy right to Congress, where Tom DeLay spent hours on their corporate airplane jetting around to golf matches. If you can rent a refrigerator to own, then surely you can rent a congressman to own, right?

Their new Rent-To-Own Congressman is Texas CD5’s Republican Jeb Hensarling. Thankfully, retired Naval Aviator and Vietnam Veteran Charlie Thompson of Dallas is running against him. A Vet won't sell the sole of his brothers and sisters for an private jet ride. You can donate a couple of bucks to Charlie on his website if you've had enough of this stuff.

As if its rent-to-own scam wasn't bad enough, Rent-A-Center just got into the payday loan business. There are many ways to profit off the Iraq war. You can rip-off the Pentagon - or you can just rip-off our soldiers.
Either way, you’re going to hell. In fact, I’m insisting on it.

Is that your coinage? That's the first time I'd ever heard it, but I'll be using it wherever appropriate from now on!

3. I wish the military would extend boot camp for a week.......
...to teach basic money management skills. I know I had no clue when I went from Parris island to Camp Lejeune. There were so many fun things to do for an 18 y/o with no idea how to manage money. The one thing I am glad I did NOT do is get a tattoo. Believe me, most of the guys did and they were all lame.
I live near Ft. Campbell now (101st airborne) and it is sickening if you drive down the road by the main gate. Half the businesses are scam loan companies and rent to own joints. I sure am glad back in my day they didn't have that type of business. All I had to worry about were strip clubs.........
