So, was anyone watching Al Franken on Letterman just now? (Fri. 9/1)
I have to say, it was the BEST I've ever seen him do on one of these nighttime talk show gigs. I mean, laugh out loud hilarious. And my sincere apologies -- this was all happening so fast I really couldn't type and watch at the same time, and mostly I was just laughing too hard.

I know there's alot of sore feelings around here about AAR and Malloy and all that. Also, please know that I've not really been any kind of big fan of Franken in the past few years; and as a Minnesotan, I've not been at all thrilled at the thought of him running for Senate.

But I will always give credit where credit is due -- and he just really did a bang-up job on tonight's appearance. I'm only posting this because I'm hoping some other DUers saw it and enjoyed it, too.

to tell the jokes he can't tell in case he decides to run.

I really started paying attention.

Apparently it's some kind of documentary about Franken.

Time to hit google, I guess...

edited to delete my mistaken guess on the title.

9. Coulter's already trying to get some of her scenes snipped.

11. Wow. Thanks for that link...
Ann Coulter has demanded that a great scene where she gets her skinny ass handed to her be cut from the documentary Al Franken: God Spoke. The film, which follows Franken’s book tour for Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right, his involvement in liberal radio network Air America and his eventual decision to run for office, includes a scene where Coulter and Franken engage in a public debate at The Connecticut Forum in 2004. In the scene they briefly argue about the late Minnesota senator Paul Wellstone, then they’re asked a question about which historical figure they would like to be. Coulter says FDR, so she could never introduce the New Deal. Al Franken quickly and easily decimates her with his answer – he’d be Hitler, so he could stop the Holocaust.

It’s a great moment, and not one that was a secret between then and now – it’s been a favorite laughing point for bloggers. But then on Monday directors Nick Doob and Chris Hegedus were informed that Coulter wouldn’t give them permission to use the footage, even though the film has already screened at the Tribeca Film Festival with the scene intact.

<snip>

The filmmakers don’t know what Coulter’s exact problem is with the footage. “We don’t really know,” says Doob. “She just didn’t want it in the film.” If I had to guess I would say it’s a two-pronged thing: she doesn’t want to be in the movie getting owned, and she wants to spite Franken.

"Owned", indeed.

17. Oh my
I can't believe anyone would attack the New Deal. I think with Social Security and all, that would kind of be political suicide and make her toxic to any serious conservative. Guess not.

18. Thom Hartmann plays this clip of Limbaugh dissing FDR quite often
on the radio: "Roosevelt is DEAD; his policies live on, but we're doing something about that as well."

Neocons HATE FDR and what he's done for this country, and rub their hands in glee as they set out to wreak havoc on government and dismantle all the good brought by the New Deal. They are proud of that hatred and wear it as a badge of 'honor.'

People who hate government, shouldn't govern.

12. Sept. 13th, I believe. It'll probably open slowly, like most documentaries
I'm especially looking forward to the footage from the USO tour.

Here's another clip I came across today on the Huffington Post's spinoff, Eat the Press:

interview. Al doing some dead on impressions, didn't see a clip from the film.

19. As I recall, there were no clips from the documentary shown.
It was just Franken and Letterman conversing with each other.

22. Can't help you there, sorry. My dialup connection just doesn't do video.
It was a lengthy appearance -- quite satisfyingly so. As I said in my OP, it was the best Al Franken appearance on any talk show in recent memory -- truly hilarious and edifying.
