Bill Maher kicked ass at the end of Real Time tonight. KO influence,
perhaps?

He paid a price for speaking his mind in 2001.

And, he's been a tad gun-shy on his show, which has frustrated us DU'er as long as I've been a member. However, he has consistently criticized the WH since gwb was delivered there by SCOTUS.

Last week's show displayed his intellectual laziness. Tonight's show, he was back on his game.

His closing remarks were witty and biting.

I hope C & L grabbed it! MKJ

1. Harry Anderson was good too!
Although I was sorry to hear he's leaving New Orleans.

It was a good show tonight!

When I heard you were moving to broadcast TV, my immediate reaction was, "He's doomed." I knew it was only a matter of time before you said something that would get you drop-kicked off the air. Think of the one-two punch that you and Jon Stewart could be delivering right now!

3. They always jump for the dough, though
And ABC money was better than Comedy Central money at that time. Of course, CC has grown since then and they're likely paying a bit better than they used to.

But Maher can say ANYTHING on HBO. And I will bet his payday is nice, too. CC has a FEW rules, and those commercials can get in the way of a good riff at times.

5. that's true........
When I first watched Real Time, I was used to watching Politically Incorrect.....and the first few times I felt like they should be breaking for a commercial about every 10 minutes!

It really helps not having to deal with commercials! There is a kind of momentum that builds during the course of the show and if you have to deal with commercials, sometimes it's difficult to keep that going as you're waiting for the end of the commercial.
