Actually, Rove's father was a geologist, but the Germans practically invented geology!!!

Somehow that just doesn't carry the same weight as if Karl Rove were the bastard son of Otto Skorzeny. But that story's not true, so don't go whispering it around to anyone... like Karl would.

3. What was the deal?
From what I've read Prescott Bush had a banking business and some of his clients were Nazis...along with a host of other companies who did the same.

Is there some direct info showing that his grandfather actively supported and approved the mission of the Nazis? If so, please link it. I haven't looked into it that far because what I've seen has been circumstantial at best and seems like a stretch.

9. Prescott Bush was censured by the Senate and had
his banking interests confiscated,, I maintain that this was the REASON why Poppy was "they youngest pilot" in the navy... Can you think of another reason why a family might need to "prove" their loyalty, by sending their young preppie son into the military?..A senator's son couls surely have gotten out of going...especially a wimpy little runt like Poppy..

11. Odd, that, because Google provides ample links to credible sources
One of the first hits is a Guardian piece that provides more than "circumstantial evidence," including the contents of several archives.

How Bush's grandfather helped Hitler's rise to power

Rumours of a link between the US first family and the Nazi war machine have circulated for decades. Now the Guardian can reveal how repercussions of events that culminated in action under the Trading with the Enemy Act are still being felt by today's president

Ben Aris in Berlin and Duncan Campbell in Washington
Saturday September 25, 2004

(snip)

His business dealings, which continued until his company's assets were seized in 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act, has led more than 60 years later to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave labourers at Auschwitz and to a hum of pre-election controversy.

(snip)

(N)ew documents, many of which were only declassified last year, show that even after America had entered the war and when there was already significant information about the Nazis' plans and policies, he worked for and profited from companies closely involved with the very German businesses that financed Hitler's rise to power. It has also been suggested that the money he made from these dealings helped to establish the Bush family fortune and set up its political dynasty.

(snip)

While there is no suggestion that Prescott Bush was sympathetic to the Nazi cause, the documents reveal that the firm he worked for, Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH), acted as a US base for the German industrialist, Fritz Thyssen, who helped finance Hitler in the 1930s before falling out with him at the end of the decade. The Guardian has seen evidence that shows Bush was the director of the New York-based Union Banking Corporation (UBC) that represented Thyssen's US interests and he continued to work for the bank after America entered the war.

Bush was also on the board of at least one of the companies that formed part of a multinational network of front companies to allow Thyssen to move assets around the world.

Thyssen owned the largest steel and coal company in Germany and grew rich from Hitler's efforts to re-arm between the two world wars. One of the pillars in Thyssen's international corporate web, UBC, worked exclusively for, and was owned by, a Thyssen-controlled bank in the Netherlands. More tantalising are Bush's links to the Consolidated Silesian Steel Company (CSSC), based in mineral rich Silesia on the German-Polish border. During the war, the company made use of Nazi slave labour from the concentration camps, including Auschwitz. The ownership of CSSC changed hands several times in the 1930s, but documents from the US National Archive declassified last year link Bush to CSSC, although it is not clear if he and UBC were still involved in the company when Thyssen's American assets were seized in 1942.

Heir to the Holocaust

Throughout the Bush family's decades of public life, the American press has gone out of its way to overlook one historical fact – that through Union Banking Corporation (UBC), Prescott Bush, and his father-in-law, George Herbert Walker, along with German industrialist Fritz Thyssen, financed Adolf Hitler before and during World War II. It was first reported in 1994 by John Loftus and Mark Aarons in The Secret War Against the Jews: How Western Espionage Betrayed the Jewish People.

The US government had known that many American companies were aiding Hitler, like Standard Oil, General Motors and Chase Bank, all of which was sanctioned after Pearl Harbor. But as The New York Times reporter Charles Higham later discovered, and published in his 1983 groundbreaking book, Trading With The Enemy; The Nazi American Money Plot 1933-1949, "the government smothered everything during and even after the war." Why?

According to Higham, the US government believed "a public scandal ... would have drastically affected public morale, caused widespread strikes and perhaps provoked mutinies in the armed services." Higham claims the government thought "their trial and imprisonment would have made it impossible for the corporate boards to help the American war effort."

However, Prescott Bush's banks were not just financing Hitler as previously reported. In fact, there was a distinct business link much deeper than Mr. Higham or Mr. Loftus knew at the time their books were published.

A classified Dutch intelligence file which was leaked by a courageous Dutch intelligence officer, along with newly surfaced information from U.S. government archives, "confirms absolutely," John Loftus says, the direct links between Bush, Thyssen and genocide profits from Auschwitz.

The business connections between Prescott Bush and Fritz Thyssen were more direct than what has been previously written. This new information reveals how Prescott Bush and UBC, which he managed directly, profited from the Holocaust. A case can be made that the inheritors of the Prescott Bush estate could be sued by survivors of the Holocaust and slave labor communities. To understand the complete picture of how Prescott Bush profited from the Holocaust, it is necessary to return to the year 1916, where it all began.

...much more...

The Guardian

George Bush's grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany.
The Guardian has obtained confirmation from newly discovered files in the US National Archives that a firm of which Prescott Bush was a director was involved with the financial architects of Nazism.

His business dealings, which continued until his company's assets were seized in 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act, has led more than 60 years later to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave labourers at Auschwitz and to a hum of pre-election controversy.

24. Neocons want the world tribalized. And then they accuse free nations
Edited on Sat Sep-02-06 09:48 AM by applegrove
practicing democracy (which means instituting laws) of being tribal. It is projection.

Just the idea that the European Economic Union has somehow been a failure is somebody's wet dream.

As always they use words applied to them to attack others. Cause they cannot accept anything but their own huge perfection.

The closest thing to a tribe that hates "others" out there is neocons themselves. They are the ones who feel nobody else in the world should be thinking except for their own dam selves. How tribal is that. It is the right of every human being to make choices.

Freedom my ass.

Neocons just want the world sliced and diced into small little democracies that they can control and dominate. Why the European Union is so attacked. Cause it is a model that scares them. All the while * WH & neocons in Canada push..every so silently..so North American Union (ignoring NAFTA rules and tribunals as the day is long) will take place. Apparently, according to this author in the Weekly Standard, Economic Union doesn't work!

As usual: one set of rules for them. One set for everybody else.

Somehow.. people in a country...do not have the right to decide themselves what they want their economy and schools to look like.

This whole message is anti-democratic. Especially the part about Belgium going under attack for being the "seat" of European Economic Union. Seems neocons are terrified of anything that approaches them in size. Or gets in their way.

And scapegoats? It isn't the French who are scapegoating anyone. They just don't like American exceptional ism (having learn to get over their own dam selves).

The only thing missing from this is the part where William Kristol wines that European intellectuals refuse to sit at his feet because they are so elitist...when he himself is running Daddy's little intellectual cabal. The privilege is with his own dam self. And he projects that onto them. Most european intellectuals likely started from the middle class and made their way to fame and accolades on their talent and intellect..oh and a little hard work. And they all had to allow their ideas and theories to pass through a process of intellectual and academic testing and debate..which Kristol and the neocons never did.

10. Primacy, and recency.
Take the weakest part of your case and get it out in the open to defuse it. Unfortunately for them, the "Islamo-fascist" PR campaign came late in the game and is targeted against an almost non-existent audience. Anyone who bothers to seriously study political events recognizes the fascist totalitarian drift of our own regime.

The irony of trying to make "intellectual" arguments about Islamo-fascists and other intellectual posturing (Bush reads Camus!)is that the neo-con fundie audience is virtually completely ignorant on these matters and not likely to understand their significance. Who is Camus and what are Islamo-fascists? Honey, what's a fascist? You know, like Hitler, they hate jews, just like Minister Hagee explained it. These people don't read Krauthammer, they can't even understand what he's talking about. They need to stick to their vague religious allusions, the Bible, and leave the propaganda to the TV ministers.

Thank you! I want to get this information out there, too!

I have called local progressive talk-radio hosts in San Fancisco and reminded them of this information. We discussed the hypocrisy of this administration characterizing it's opponents as Nazi sympathizers.

This information could be seriously damaging to the Republican pResident. This is factual, and easily linked to credible news sources. I'm going to keep pushing it into the light. I am composing a LTTE on the subject to submit to Bay Area newpapers now.
