4. I really liked Maher.
That was until the whole Hitchens thing and seeing him on LKL the other night. Now I'm rather ambivalent towards him.

6. I will not hate someone who's paid a price for speaking his mind. Last
week, he was suffering from intellectual laziness.

He's on his game this week.

I wonder why the OP hates him? MKJ

9. I don't hate anyone.
I just think he's way off base on some of his opinions. "What if the Canadians started suicide bombing Americans?" Bleh.

16. Sorry, I meant to focus the "hate" comment on the OP. Yes, he
can be pretty snarky to good people and then have Coulter on and drool all over her. (Although it has been quite while since she's been on).

His New Rules were terrific tonight. When he's on his game, he provides moments of brilliance. MKJ

7. What happened?
I've never been a fan, though. He looks like a sadistic clown to me, distracting me from what he's ever said. I'm not proud of that admission, but there it is, lol.

13. Maher's show last week was a gentleman's D, this week he is
back on his game a bit more and it was much stronger. Penn Jillet was a particular ass tonight - I'm thinking he was going for sarcasm but it lost something in translation. Kept saying he didn't want to pay ANY taxes and was just positive that homosexuality was listed in the bible as a sin. Got in a groove and he sounded like a stuck record repeating it over and over.

The repug Congress Critter was a wolf in sheep clothing - don't trust him as far as you can throw him. It is an election year, after all. Sounding reasonable (instead of actually being reasonable) is what they do and he is no exception. He was riding that yellow line on the highway all night but I'm pretty sure he'll drift back to the right on November 9th. And Mary Frances Berry was a gem throughout the show - she is smart, savvy, and will go toe to toe with anyone.

Harry Anderson was good to see, and sad to realize that he is giving up on New Orleans. Fouad Ajami is just too far gone on Kool Aid to be believable. Wonder when Bill is going to realize a person can be smart and still be dumber than a box of rocks when they have an agenda they can't see beyond their own nose? Berry nailed Ajami and it is just a shame that Ajami didn't get it to his face.

I was extremely disappointed with last week's show and so didn't expect much this week. Evidently Maher heard some of the criticism (Here? At Huff Po?) and was much better prepared.

Overall the show was pretty good. There was no flipping off of the audience, Maher's jokes were funnier and better delivered, the New Rules needed some work and the round table was adequate. I'd give it a B+ for the effort Bill put forth this week.

Maher is a jerk (and wishy washy, thin skinned, doesn't back up his opinions with anything but canned responses - no depth - and he gets real snarky when his audience gives less than unadulterated adoration) but he does have a national show and does provide a forum for some interesting discussion.

Last year Maher was on top of his game. This year, not so much. Just my 2¢

15. Yes. Issa was definitely in "rare" form...
You hit the nail right on the head. 67 days until the election...

I'm a Californian. He's either full of shit, jumping ship or pandering for the vote. IMO, it's one of the three. The only thing that I believed him to be sincere about was Lebanon. I'll give him that.

10. He has never been significant enough to pay any mind to
I have never understood why he is even worth discussion. I don't mean that to sound pretentious, I just never looked at the guy as a serious player.

11. Don't we all have better things to worry about?
Like the war in Iraq, the upcoming elections this November, '08 elections, poverty, AIDS, cancer, Katrina victims who still don't have a home, global warming....

Seriously, if you like him, watch; if you don't, don't watch. But worry about things that actually matter.

14. Yes, by all means, teach our children to hate - it's a family value
forget about a civil disagreement with all he stands for, each them to hate the individul. Once they gat it down for Maher, then it's just a small step to hate he blacks, jews, indians, Arabs, and anyone who is different from you. Get the yard signs ready: Vote Democratic - the party that hates!
