Bush White House subpoenaed by wiretap lawyers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Two attorneys representing claimants in a lawsuit over wiretapping by the National Security Agency claim that they have sent subpoenas to the White House today, RAW STORY has learned.

Bruce Afran and Carl Mayer, who say they represent hundreds of plaintiffs in lawsuits against Verizon, AT&T, and the US Government, will announnce (sic) today that they are serving both the Bush administration and Verizon with subpoenas.

The announcement is due to arrive at 4:30 PM, outside of Verizon headquarters in New York, RAW STORY has confirmed.

Mayer tells RAW STORY that the subpoenaes, directed to President George Bush, the Office of Legal Counsel, the Department of Justice, and the Chief Legal Counsel for Verizon, have already been sent, and should reach their targets tomorrow.

(At least that's the "breaking news" Raw Story told us three days ago. C'mon, RS, how about an update?)

4. Kicking.
Only two votes? For no follow up over a story that had at least 173 of us salivating three days ago?

I can't believe DUers have already lost interest in this story.

8. What is this???
About WH being subpoenaed or an attempt to 'Leopold' Rawstory.

I haven't heard one word from the MSM about there even being a suit. What no outrage for them?

Soon we will all have to go to Free Republic to get our breaking news.

Obvious left alternative media flame bait thread.

The sad part is that it is getting very hard to read DU lately, I don't know why this mess is allowed to continue.

9. You're shooting the questioner.
If you think a post wondering what's happened to this story is flamebait, tough.

I obviously won't be able to convince you otherwise, nor do I consider it worth the effort.

6. subpoenaes are supposed to be personally served to the
person for whom they are intended or someone authorized to accept service. Maybe they haven't been served yet?

What I wouldn't do to be the one to serve that rat bastard.

And to Roy:The damn librul media ain't on this one yet?!Wonders never cease.

If Skinner disallowed stories of importance at D.U. that weren't on the MSM half of the most important stories would be deleted.Seems odd that you wouldn't know that being a Democrat who obviously has posted a lot at D.U. ...

16. Nope... Liberal media will never be on this one...
until the "nutbloggers" on the "internets" force them to.

Post inviting others to dump on Rawstory, a valued source of information ignored by the MSM, simply because they don't have further info to share, or whatever other reason is not an important story IMHO.

If you read the OP (and replies) again, this is not about the subpoena, but about Rawstory not following up, and implying that they made the original story up.

I am well aware of, admire the job the mods do here (except for the way they allow the Jason Leopold threads to be spammed and disrupted). So you can save that tripe for someone else.

11. So, people..... what ever happened to that big press conference
that was supposed to take place 4:30 pn on Tuesday? No explantion form the attornies or the blog promoters, no follow-up, nary a word about any of it since. That was three days ago. Lots of time to issue a new press release or update. Lots of time for the involved blogs to start making calls or asking questions..

Yet the whole liberal blogosphere seems decidedly uncurious about this seemingly vanishing but rather huge story. About the press conference that didn't happen, AFAIK... about all of it.

Which I find rather curious.

Tuvor and I were just noticing this last night..

12. Can lawyers "serve" subpoenas?
I thought they could only ASK the Court to issue one then an agent of the court can serve it. It sounds like a small distinction but it makes a huge difference. When I hear the judge has issue one, then I'll get excited.

13. Sometime The Court Will Issue Them "In Blank"
So the lawyers fill in the name then hand them back to the court for service or possibly to a "process server".

As long as they attest to it's service.

29. Me too....
But the first week of school went great for my big Pachagirl....I'm just trying to keep up with the repair from flood damage to the house and getting ready to fight our friends at the insurance company regarding the claim.

What I don't get is this: Isn't the flood insurance program supposed to be a nat'l gov't backed program???? So why would a private insurance carrier through whom I purchased to policy and who "administers", have the ability to deny a claim flat out and seem to be acting as an obstacle to us repairing and being compensated. I just don't get it at all....

PS: Saw that thread earlier and couldn't stop laughing....Bush wishes his body part was long enough to do that. Thought the imagery was hysterical in reference to Bush not having ole Gannon/Guckert around.
