How does Bush define "victory in Iraq"?
He said it over and over again in his American Legion speech: Victory in Iraq, Victory in Iraq, Victory in Iraq.

Is this the same as "standing down when the Iraqis stand up"? What constitutes a victory?

3. Right now, it looks like Iraq hurts him more than it helps him.
His approval rating on the war is in the 30s. People are finally disconnecting Iraq from the WoT, which is why he's trying so hard to stitch them back together.

6. The oil is never going to pay for this.
That is, unless "oil" is a new euphemism for "American tax dollars."

7. He leaves office
It's so obvious that he plans on letting someone else take the hit after we finally pull out.

Maybe they can then blame the whole disaster on the Democrats?

:eyes:

You KNOW they will be in 10 years.

This is the thing I HATE most about Republicans.

Act tough, aren't accountable (in other words - cowards).

8. He never defines it and we never make him.
If we had made him define it a couple of years ago, we would now have something to compare to the current situation. I despair of anyone ever asking him what victory in Iraq means in terms of value to the United States. Not some flight of drama like "freedom for the Iraqi people" but a real assessment of the value and potential value of his "accomplishment."

9. Those who try to make him define his goals
Edited on Fri Sep-01-06 12:00 AM by elperromagico
are branded as "appeasers" or "cut-and-runners."

If victory is the goal, it should have clearly defined parameters. Otherwise, how will you know when you've achieved it? We knew what victory in WWII constituted. There was no question of it. But ask Bush to define it, and you're asking for a timeline. Timelines are bad, mmmkay?

12. You *do* realize that no one is supposed to ask that question?
"victory", "winning", etc all sound good; but we'll never see any metrics applied to those terms, by which we could measure progress or completion.

It's perpetual war for perpetual power, baby.
