United Nations, January 21, 2006

"As of an hour ago, when I last checked with security agencies combing the area, they have not found any tangible evidence that a particular group or any individual was there," Aziz told reporters on Friday evening after a meeting with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan at the UN headquarters in New York.

Aziz reiterated that his government condemned the US air strike, which has sparked massive protests in many Pakistani cities. He said he would raise the issue when meeting with US President George W Bush in Washington next week.

2. Well, he's got nukes,
so, he may be alright. After all, the worst threat Bush issued to little Kim in N. Korea was to call him a pygmy. I imagine the Pakistani PM can deal with that kind of tough 'we'll show'm we mean business' talk from the Texas cowboy. Or is it the Pennsylvania cowboy? I always forget where he came from, for some reason.

4. right, but it undercuts the entire hype the CIA hoped to get

from the remote-controlled airstrike into yet another sovereign nation. I don't have the same level of cynicism as you about the effect of his statement. After all, (edit) isn't his statement a response to the Bush reaction to the fright tapes that 'surfaced' from the pair of #2s? And there is a real effect of this strike and the hype by the defenders in our govt. has had on the public attitude toward President Musharraf. It would be typical for the actions of Bush to unseat yet another head of state in the region with the prospect of the replacement of an even more insidious host.
