Bolton: No doubt as to Iran's intentions
UNITED NATIONS -
Iran has left no doubt it intends to seek nuclear weapons now that it has violated a
U.N. Security Council deadline to suspend uranium enrichment, and the council must now be ready to impose sanctions, U.S. Ambassador John Bolton said Thursday. Iran's president defiantly refused to compromise, saying his country won't be bullied into giving up its right to nuclear technology.
<snip>

Security Council unanimity was not needed before taking action against Iran, Bolton said in a reference to continued Chinese and Russian reluctance to move quickly on sanctions
<snip>

Iran's refusal to cooperate fully with the IAEA and its continued development of nuclear technology makes clear that it is seeking a nuclear bomb, Bolton told reporters. Iran contends its program is for peaceful purposes.
<snip>

"There's simply no explanation for the range of Iranian behavior which we've seen over the years other than that they're pursuing a weapons capability," Bolton said..

1. What there is 'no doubt' of is that Neo-cons aren't about to give up on
their ideas of world dominance. War mongering fools. The people of this country must rise up and stop another invasion, bombing, or occupation!

2. I wouldn't say "no doubt", quite, but there isn't much.
Iran *is* trying to develope nuclear weapons, and we shouldn't let the fact that Bush and his allies are saying that it is convince us otherwise.

6. I believe the proverb I'm looking for is
"A stitch in time saves nine".

I suspect that there is currently no way that won't result in all out war (which would be a cure far worse than the malady) of preventing Iran aquiring nuclear weapons (although I'm far from certain of that), but if such a way arrises it should be taken, and even if it doesn't we shouldn't pretend it's not trying to do so.

10. IRan offered to abide by all the UN conventions and have observers
Edited on Thu Aug-31-06 04:03 PM by Vincardog
The (p)Resident answered "NO DEAL".
Iran offered to have meetings to discuss the issue
The (p)Resident answered "NO DEAL".
The Iranians offered to abide by the NNPT
The (p)Resident answered "NO DEAL".

The question is "WHY do you believe the warmonger in chief wants any result other than all out war?

That is why they put BoltOn in the UN? They did it to ensure no diplomatic solution was possible.

Take the hint the only thing they know how to do is Start Wars and kill people.

4. Unanimity not required? Bolton needs to take a remedial reading class.
Bolton is doing a sleight of hand here. A single no vote by a permanant UN Security Council Member would scuttle Chapter VII sanctions.

What Bolton is referring to is the possibility that both China and Russia might abstain in a final sanctions vote, which is unlikely.

5. Even if the UN were to
sanction Iran or Iran were to stop enriching Uranium, if nuclear weapons are their goal they could get them other ways, North Korea comes to mind

something seems to be afoot. The last time we had this constant military troops/cargo plane thing was just beofore the Iraq invasion.

11. If Bolton has 'No Doubt'...
I'm inclined to think Iran has no intentions of developing nuclear weapons; given his critical thinking skills and their track record.
