My reply to those complaining about Malloy threads, etc
Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 10:21 PM by The Straight Story
When someone pulls the rug out from under you, ya tend to get a little pissed off. And you vent.

And sometimes you find like minded people and post together, then jump into action to fix something you see as broken.

I don't give a rat's ass about Malloy (nothing against the guy, just ain't my cup o joe). But people I care about on here do, and that is a pretty darned good reason for me to help em out. I have only listened to Air America once in my life.

But sweet jesus in a jeep on I-71 man it is not small potatoes to some folk.

After my mom died I listened more than usual to coast to coast am, it helped me get through many a nights of sadness and suffering. Had they pulled it then, when it was doing more than providing me an opinion/story, my ass would have been bitching about it, calling stations, writing letters, etc.

Mike meant something to some people here, he gave them a little something they needed. I ain't gonna bash my DU brethern over that.

It is NEWS to US (well, not me so much). People were sick of the jonbenet threads, etc, well this is something that has to do with people on this board. It upsets them, the least we can do is let em have their say without mowing em down (like a recently pulled thread did, which inspired this thread because I was writing this as a response to that one and it went byebye).

4. Thank you
your post is especially appreciated because you re not a particular fan. I have made a few post today since this happended that I can not understand why people would post shitty Mike posts - it is apparent that many of us are fans of Mike and that we were upset and venting and anyone posting shitty comments about Mike was pouring fuel on the fire or pouring salt in the wound

After the 2000 election I felt completely shocked - alone and wondering what I would do for the next 4 years....and this was WAY before it got really bad with this admin - long before 9/11 - I went to the internet and started searching - I found buzz flash and then I found DU - from DU I found Mike Malloy which was like a gift from the goddess - I would listen to him and his callers and realize I was not alone in my feelings - this was SO IMPORTANT in my life I can't begin to tell you....from Mike I found whiterosesociety.org - which led me to Tony Trupiano, Randi Rhodes, Bernie Ward that led me to Ray Talefero, Guy James, Bob Kincaid and now the rest of Head On and along the way AAR came alive Mike wasn't on at first but I was one of the many folks who called and emailed to get them to hire Mike...and AAR led me to Sam Sedar whom I now love too - all this came from searching on the internet for people who think like me.

Without all of this connectivity to like minded people I'm not sure what might have happened to me...in any event Mike Malloy has played and important part in my life

So if we needed to vent and if we're disappointed and if you can't relate to this please everyone please keep nasty comments to yourself because as the OP said there are fellow DUers who are hurting.

5. Lost a good radio host here I loved in Columbus
Steve, boom-boom, cannon. On 610wtvn. I had been listening to him for probably 15 years. I got busy with some things and did not listen to the radio at that time for two weeks, came back, and he was gone.

Guess who is on there now? Sean Hannity. The local guy got the boot for the rabid neo-con. Now instead of late evening shows about local issues, chit chat, fun things, we have rabid asshole.

I have a lot of good memories of calling into his show, listening to it on hot summer nights, and feeling connected to my local community with a pretty fair and kind guy behind the mic.

It sucks, and if we had the outpouring people here are giving for mike he might have gotten his job back into a different slot or something.

We got to stick together here on issues, whether they affected us directly or not. My best friend is gay, I am not, but his issues are still important to me (and I am talking outside the political realm mainly).

Let's hope they get Mike on somewhere!

9. OK, OK, OK!
Really I am usually good at ignoring stuff and almost never get hostile with anybody but it just seemed very agressive to me, all the dupe threads with AAR #s etc!! Because otherwise it's like DU is preempted for the day or something, when I go to the Greatest page and it's 80% Malloy Grief threads.

If Keith Olberman was cancelled I would be devestated, so I can relate even though I'm not a MM fan.

Alright I promise not to comment on any more MM threads but can I also just ask nicely for the MM posters to check for dupes before starting another thread?

10. You are a good person K8-EEE
But I was mighty disappointed in you earlier today.
It a mark of quality when a person takes the trouble to post a mea culpa.

Thanks, much, for that.

11. Exactly.
Mike is a beacon, a kindred spirit to a lot of people who can hardly hold it together.

You hear it all the time on his show. "Man, if it weren't for you, I'd go nuts", is a common sentiment among callers.

I admit, he pulls me in as well.

He makes you give a damn.

And that's what your country needs right now.
