If it was Randi Rhodes or Al Franken instead of Mike Malloy...
I have the feeling we'd see the same level of outrage. Malloy was one of the original guard on AAR and has his legions of Truthseekers, and he will be sorely missed.

1. Randi definitely
I don't think Al has the passionate fans that Mike and Randi have

8. Al's not doing badly:

Here's his PAC:

http://midwestvaluespac.org/about

He's also sold a few books.

But should Al leave AAR, I don't think his fans would be throwing themselves out of windows, if that's what you mean.

11. AL
is too bland and says little when you really think about it.

19. Thanks for reminding us what a wonderful,
bright book writing person Al is. And thanks for reminding us his good fans are so level headed.

20. Nothing against Al
I know he is well liked and respected. I don't listen to his show, but I bought Liars and enjoyed it. But to alot of angry progressive's Mike was screaming what we all want to scream sometimes. I listened to him everyday during work, would download his show to my Ipod with AAR premium. I will miss him and Kathy very much. Every morning I download Mike, Randi and Sam, but Mike was the only one I looked forward to hearing what he had to say.

I will feel a little empty inside till he finds a new venue.

2. I Was Not A Regular Listener
But I had heard him before, and I found him to have a powerful voice and knew what he was talking about. I'm always sad to see someone who was obviously adored by so many, let go in such an abrupt and nonsensical manner.

I often wonder how media outlets make their decisions, especially when they appear to fly in the face of what the public wants. Sorry so many are so sad.

I predict that the show replacing it will bomb. These things often backfire. They'll regret their decision, I assure you. They won't admit it ever, but they'll suffer ratings wise in the end.

3. Same here - Malloy's tape-delayed in Dallas way past sleepytime
Never got to hear him much. I liked him just fine, although I think he used the phrase "Bush Crime Family" one too many times. Made a lot of good points, though.

4. Lots of us listened to both Randi and Mike
long before AAR.... I don't listen to Al and if he left or got canned I wouldn't care - he is way to middle of the road for me.....a lot of which is most likely due to his potential run for Senate - but for whatever reason I'm not a fan....

5. Yes But It Would Be More Cohesive And Less Hysterical.
I find a lot of those MM fans are as humorless, shrill and ranting as their hero....I agree with him but I can't for the life of me picture him changing one single mind with his attitude.

And getting yelled at all day if you think boycotting AAR etc. is counterproductive.

Mike wasn't for everyone, no one is. But he is a huge supporter of DU and he's helped us many, many times with our actions.

I'll always be grateful for that.:)

6. If it was Al Franken it'd be on NBC news
and on CNN and Faux.

I hope Mike Malloy has the energy to think about streaming a show or doing a podcast...maybe not everyday but once a week a la This Week in Tech and the myriad of Leo Laporte podcasts.

I have one weekly podcast I listen to that is over two hours in length, so the length shouldn't be a problem. Bandwidth could be..even a weekly Malloy is better than NO Malloy. I'd take the money I paid to be an AAR premium member and donate it to Mike to cover bandwidth, if he did a podcast.

13. you know, you could be on to something
you should start a thread (if you haven't).

Rather than this juvenile "Fuck Air America" bullshit going on, you see to actually have a plan.

I think a lot of people would gladly pay to hear him podcasted.

And it could be a step to getting him back on the air, or on somewhere else (Siruis Left, isn't it called?)

We need every voice and venue we can get.

30. Randi's canning would draw outrage ...
maybe more so than Malloy.

Franken's would largely draw sighs of relief at DU. He's a milquetoast, mealy-mouthed middle-of-the-roader who's too willing to overlook Israeli war crimes.

31. Was Mike drinking ...
when he subbed for Randi on Tuesday? I've always thought alcohol might get him in trouble, especially on-air use. I'm wondering if he'll ever be able to get another radio gig.
