Did AAR "trade" Mike Malloy for The Young Turks?
Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 05:39 PM by calipendence
We all know here about Malloy getting fired last night. Now look at this post on Sirius Backstage that notes that AAR has the Young Turks coming on board this Friday. Doesn't that timing sound a BIT too coincidental?

Kinda sucks! I was seriously thinking of going back to Sirius instead of XM if they were to pick up Mike Malloy! Now they've lost The Young Turks. I wonder though if they could have been smart and got some sort of contract with the Young Turks that would allow them to continue getting aired on Sirius Left, much like Thom Hartmann has over there now. If they were smart they would have negotiated something with them that wouldn't have them covered by the blanket "exclusive" arrangement XM has with other AAR talent now.

best.

I've listened to them off & on for over two years now, "Sirius Left" 3 to 6 pacific, and though they have gotten a bit better...but far, far from Mike Malloy's left progressive politics and mine too!

The YT are nowhere as entertaining and informative as Malloy!

2. There is going to be a new AAR schedule in mid-September.
The hirings and firings and time-slot changes are coming out now for that reason.

3. Unless some things have changed...
the Turks would be taking over the lat hour of Mark Riley and Rachael's 2 hour time slot as a morning show, however that wasn't official...

then again, for all we know things have gone REALLY round the horn... I did get a (single source, unconfirmed rumor) during my calling that you could have The Young Turks taking over the evening slot from 6-9p and now Sam Will be doing the late shift.

.. with Springer's old shift going to ... MAMA!

as I said, wholy unconfirmed... there is a MASSIVE amount of buzz going on about this...

10. OMG That would be awesome if AAR picked up Stephanie for the
mornings. If they have a brain, I'm sure they have been trying.

4. I used to have Sirius, and The Young Turks are woefully uninformed
Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 05:46 PM by DancingBear
This is AAR going back to its fun/politics model.

If you like pop pablum with your politics-lite, you'll love these folks.

If you'd prefer, you know, somebody who actually KNOWS something, and can actually refute an argument with facts, then go elsewhere.

If this is the direction that AAR is taking then look for their real talent to eventually go elsewhere, and what remains will be crap like what is currently on Sirius Left.

Lynne Samuels, anyone???

edit: Per Rosco T.'s post above I"ll wait and see what goes down come Monday. Either way, bringing The Young Turks over is NOT going to improve AAR from a "knowledgeable about politics" standpoint.

7. Uninformed is always the way I would describe them...They always seem
Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 05:51 PM by LaPera
as if they believed the republicans and right-wing bullshit and then when something becomes so obviously republican corrupt, then they attacked it from a cautious moderate point of view ...And I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were republicans at one time (not long ago).

5. the "Young Turks" is a very poor name choice
The Three Pashas of the Young Turks ruled the Ottoman Empire from Coup of 1913 until the end of World War I. The Young Turks were responsible for orchestrating the Armenian Genocide.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_Turks

I bet that the guys behind this show were in ignorance about that, but it still a fact. The other meaning of the name was used a synonym to "progressive", but it was before the Armenian Genocide became really a current issue again.

8. Cenk Yeuger is from Turkey...
Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 05:51 PM by Beelzebud
He's done shows talking about the Armenian Genocide and how it is all but forgotten.

He has also, MANY TIMES, explained why the show is called the Young Turks... And in fact, if you bother to go to their webpage, there is a link called About the Show, and the first line on that page is the following:

Young Turk (n), 1. Young progressive or insurgent member of an institution, movement, or political party. 2. Young person who rebels against authority or societal expectations. (American Heritage Dictionary)

9. it is forbidden to talk about it in Turkey
under jail penalty. But I agree it's not forgotten by the Armenians. And it's still a poor name.
