Earth to Mr. Bush -- America has not traded "popularity" for "respect"
Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 05:00 PM by Armstead
In his interview with Brian Willaiams, he said that he realized that many of his actions and policies are not popular around the world. But the world respects the United States, which is more important, according to Mr. Bush.

Er, um, with all due respect, I believe we have squandered both love and respect over the last six years.

The Iranians are hardly acting like they either fear or respect us. Ditto for North Korea. We're a bit of a laughingstock in Europe these days. Russia regularly thumbs its' nose at us. China is just waiting until they can collect on the mortage on the US that they now hold.

Sounds like we've become more like Rodney Dangerfield in terms of respect.

Sorry, but perhaps you meant to say "The world now DISrespects the United States?"

2. China has told the United States to "SHUT UP" - that pretty much says
they have no respect for us or what we have to say. Said lack of respect directly due to Bush's lack of popularity around the world and in the U.S.

What a pathetic President we have, the Occupant In Chief, a Commander only in his own mind.

4. I think this is a very telling comment.
It suggests that Bush equates respect & fear. In the case of America, the world "respects" us like an unarmed person might "respect" a homicidal maniac with a meat cleaver. You tread lightly until the guys with the nets come. Unfortunately for the world, there are no guys with nets to save us from this monster. We'll have to do it ourselves.

9. He's never learned the difference between respect and contempt?
I have met Americans who I respect, but I pity them
for many of the things that living in America entails.
