Bush: "I seriously hope people wouldn't politicize these issues"

Remarks by Bush in Photo Opportunity
Cotham's in the City
Little Rock, Arkansas

Q Sir, do you think your new series of speeches are going to have an impact on midterm elections?

"My series of speeches -- they're not political speeches. They're speeches about the future of this country, and they're speeches to make it clear that if we retreat before the job is done, this nation would become even more in jeopardy. These are important times, and I seriously hope people wouldn't politicize these issues that I'm going to talk about. We have a duty in this country to defeat terrorists. That's why we'll stay on the offense and bring them to justice before they hurt us, and that's why we'll work to spread liberty in order to spread the peace.

Anyway, thank you all."

Eye on Elections, Bush Plans Speeches on Terrorism

By ANNE E. KORNBLUT
Published: August 30, 2006

NASHVILLE, Aug. 30 — With the midterm elections coming into view, President Bush is launching an extended publicity tour to draw attention back to the threat of terrorism, quickly pivoting to more comfortable political territory for him after the focus in recent days on the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Starting with an address to veterans on Thursday, Mr. Bush intends to outline what one adviser described as the “consequences of victory and defeat.” He will continue making speeches on the subject throughout the month, keying off the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11.

The White House has made national security, and the war in Iraq, the centerpieces of Mr. Bush’s strategy for helping Republicans try to retain control of Congress in this year’s election. Nonetheless, as he traveled to Arkansas and Tennessee today to raise money for Republican candidates, Mr. Bush insisted that his “series of speeches, they are not political speeches.”

“These are important times, and I seriously hope people wouldn’t politicize these issues I’m going to talk about,” Mr. Bush said after a fund-raising event at a private home in Little Rock before flying to another fund-raiser in Nashville. “We have a duty in this country to defeat the terrorists.”

3. I mean . . . goddamn
Bush was to attend a closed-door fundraiser in Little Rock for Asa Hutchinson, a former congressman who is running for governor against Democrat Mike Beebe.

The fundraiser, which attracted some 800 people to the home of former pro basketball player Joe Kleine, was expected to raise an estimated $400,000 for Hutchinson's campaign and the Republican Party in Arkansas.

Before arriving in Salt Lake City Wednesday evening, Bush was stopping in Nashville to attend a $2,100-a-plate fundraiser for Bob Corker's Senate campaign.

2. Bush is overlooking the fact that many people around the world consider
HIM TO BE THE TERRORIST. He invaded a sovereign nation that had not harmed us, and apparently didn't have the means to do so if they tried. So what makes us any different? We're attempting to force our agenda, our beliefs on another nation.

I would bet Bush is responsible for many more deaths in Iraq than all the terrorist activities against the United States and our facilities put together.

5. how is he spreading liberty in Iraq
He just opened a 60 million dollar prison there? What do prisons have to do with spreading
liberty, am I missing something here. And for him to say not to politicize something, everything is a campaign strategy to him, including terror.

9. War is pieces of plunder, booty to be carted back
I guess that probably what he means. That's why he wants "Peace" so much.
