2. Confirmed at his website:
MIKE MALLOY FIRED BY AIR AMERICA RADIO

There will be no Mike Malloy program today - or any day - on Air America Radio as we have been terminated. We are as shocked as you are. We are told its a financial decision.

More details to follow as we hear them ourselves.

It's a dead market. Has been that way for half a century.

3. If they took the step to fire the guy
what will a few e-mails do? They'd probably expect it, state their reasons for doing so, then tell you that they own the station and you don't.

10. Okay, who got to AAR?
Somebody did because if an idiot dope addict like Rush Limbaugh can still be on the air, and Mike Malloy, the anti-Rush is fired, it seems we are seeing the same violation of our First Ammendment rights that has been going on since Reagan.

Time for a liberal station to be set up in either Canada or Mexico where they can't touch them and Voice of exiled America broadcasts be done on short wave for those stations here in America to chicken to carry the voices of the exiled. This is one of the loudest salvos against our freedom of speech yet my fellow Americans.

How in the world could you fire Mike Malloy!? You just got rid of the heart and soul of your station. Many days, his show was the only one I listened to. No one told the truth and connected with his listeners more than Mike Malloy did. I will follow Malloy wherever he goes, and will cancel my XM radio subscription to do so.

14. Terrible way to let him go
I was surprised to hear that he was filling in for Randi R this week. IMHO, he's not drive time material but fine for late night where one's voice does not have to be so well-modulated. I wonder whether putting him in this time slot did him in, kind of the last nail in the coffin.

Thom Hartman is smart and informed. It'd be great if he were added to Air America Radio.

34. Speak for yourself.
Mike was the best they had next to Randi. And you can believe if they ditched Malloy, there is no way they want someone with the intellect and conviction of Hartmann on Board. It's obvious they want middle of the road milquetoast like Franken who will not rock the boat TOO much.

This is a GIANT step to the right.

Wake up. Other than Randy you just lost the Soul of this network.

Something stinks.

Air America is officially dead. At least to me.

Those who cannot read the writing on this particular wall are in extreme denial.

If you think this can't happen to Randi too, you just wait.

There is a concerted effort to silence those who are getting the truth out, because too many people are starting to wake up.

42. I'm delayed here in Portland
still stuck with Ed...

Not doubting the announcement, just find it really odd that AAR didn't update their web page or pull that before they'd do something as boneheaded and kneejerk as fire someone who was about to go on the air.

This isn't some kind of demographic or contract decision. People don't get "FIRED" with no notice or negotiation a few minutes before they are to hit the air unless something very stinky is going on.

And why in the HELL are you screaming at me about this?! Clear Channel is evil personified! They are on a reTHUGlian mission to destroy left wing dialog and information any way they can! That they ever decided in the first place to broadcast AAR on their stations is suspect. That Mike Malloy has been fired PROVES my point. Clear Channels sole purpose here is to destroy AAR!

Is that what you want?!

If not, then get the HELL off my back!

94. No, but I don't think they're stupid
If they didn't want AAR to succeed, they wouldn't have carried it. A lot simpler (and cheaper) than carrying it and then "controlling" it. If Randi or Franken or anyone (including Malloy) had ever said that they were been stifled by Clear or told what to say (or not say), then I might buy this theory. But to my knowledge they never did. Of course, maybe you think they're all secretly working on behalf of Clear to emasculate AAR.

75. If they control a large percent of your business, they can.
Face it, if Clear Channel pulled the plug on Air America, or even did things like preempt a bunch of AAR's programs (and ads), AAR would be in a deep financial hole. So Clear Channel can indeed demand quite a lot from AAR, even if they didn't outright own it.

First it was Lizz, then Mark Maron, now Mike, I have written, chatted, signed petitions, promoted people, and never even heard a word from AAR back either. I have just about had it with them.

I was just on Thom Hartman's chat and the producer is arguing about supporting progressive radio no matter what because who else sdo we have?" But I am telling you I have been there done that with terrible candidates and what has "being central" ever gotten? Them voting for an illegal war? Them ignoring the rising poverty rates? Them looking the other way while the medicare bill was signed into law? Them ignoring the terrible need for decent healthcare? Them supporting a bankruptcy bill?

I think I am going to listen online to whom I like and screw AAR!

Someone was playing Taps for AAR, I am bowing my head ...

39. As of today, AAR is dead to me.
Malloy was the only reason for listening. Every time slot has a better replacement.

Stephanie Miller in the morning.

Thom Hartmann in the afternoon.

Young Turks in the evening.

And now that Malloy is not on at night, AAR can go fuck itself.

56. I feel the same way.
I love S. Miller in the a.m. and Malloy at night. It's the only time I can listen on the internet radio and we can't get any AAR stations where I live.

I suppose I'll keep trying to listen to Ring of Fire, but I hope K & P don't get axed also!

91. Any chances Jones Radio might pick up Malloy?
Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 04:43 PM by calipendence
Not sure how conservative their management is or not, but they've already got Ed Schultz and Stephanie Miller now and they are on a lot of Air America affiliates already. If Mike signs on with Jones Network for a show at the same time slot, I suspect many affiliates like KLSD here in San Diego might want to just keep the consistency and drop AAR at the 9:00 PM PST slot and keep Mike Malloy there from Jones instead. They already have Ed Schultz on at noon, so I have to believe it might not be to hard to make that switch. Hopefully Sirius can get him on Sirius Left now too. That would be a good pickup and I might consider getting Sirius subscription back up again and selling off my XM receiver. That might push Jones into being a more dominant syndicator at some affiliates than AAR is at this time too.

102. Perhaps they'll be moving people's slots around though...
It just seems odd that they fire one host and pick up another show's hosts two days later. Seems to me they might be linked.

57. A shame. Another good progressive voice...
silenced. Although, I do hope we hear him again soon. I talked with him on his show once before he came to Air America when I first started my PAC, and he cordially allowed me to give out the information about it. If there is any way I can write a letter to support him, I will.

63. Who will now channel my righteous rage?
No one is better than Mike Malloy at righteous rage.

It was bad enough when they replaced him in NY with the Maria Shriver-worshipping Satellite Sisters... now what?

93. Sirius screwed up earlier in not filling in the AAR gap left behind...
Now they have a second chance. If they have any plans on getting folks like Bernie Ward and/or Ray Taliafiero, getting Thom Hartmann the complete morning slot and then bringing in someone like Malloy for the evenings, they'd have me back!

72. 1) I feel bad for Mike and Kathy....
2) Mike is great in a cathartic way. He's absolutely right that conservatives are completely evil and stupid.

However, having said all of that, I'm really not going to miss him. He's a conspiracy kook.

77. Perhaps some competition is in order?
Mike plus Stephanie Miller and maybe Bernie Ward from SF could be the nucleus of a much harder-hitting lineup. Of course, AAR itself has had trouble finding stations (in NYC, they'll soon be on 1600 AM, or as Imus says, "up there by the police calls"), so where to air them?

78. Sad day for Truthseekers
I'll never forget the first time I heard Mike on the air. On vacation in S. Florida and turned on the radio one night. I was amazed by what I heard; the man was speaking for me. Now he doesn't. Up Yours AAR!

conspiracy theory though. I remember someone posted that he was blaming Rove for the Benet story. That was the only real exposure to who he was that I've had. Wasn't exactly a great position for a good first impression LOL

Wish him well though. He was a progressive radio host, that lord knows there ain't enough of, so I wish him well.

104. Mike Malloy was a steam vent
....People are going to burst without their vent ....

I got to shake his hand once in Sacramento this year .
He was the Moderator for an Impeachment Conference .

I listen every night , my whole family listened . We blared
the radio so every room in the house could hear (small house)

 My Entire family will miss hanging out with Mike and Kathy.

Some are saying Mike wasn't important , Mike would be the
first to agree with them :-) Mike was important to me
because , his rants and yelling and tears were mine too.

I guess some people didn't feel the same connection , and that's
great . It means your not hurting now and I for one am glad you're
not in pain . I however am hurting . It seems strange to hurt about
some "radio personality" , but I do .

My steam of frustration and anger vented while listening.

I'll Miss Ya Mike and I'll do all I can to get you back on the air.

Come Back To California :loveya:

Couldnt stand him at first--- all that ranting and raving and foaming at the mouth-- but grew to love him-- the key is he does what he does so artfully and articulately.

How about letting the man say goodbye. Have they no decency?
