Why do the Republicans want to be Reformers?
What is there that needs reforming? They have had no investigations into wrong doings or ethical lapses so what makes them believe reforms are needed? Are they just accepting Democratic charges without rebuttal? It would appear that is the case because they refuse to launch any investigations of any sort yet claim reforms are needed. Things that make you go Hmmmmmm.

2. Because they can't call it "raiding the treasury for our friends program".
Like bankruptcy "reform" - stops 5% (or less) of the people that take advantage of the bankruptcy system to give more money to the banks. The fact that 100% of the credit card companies charge usury rates is irrelevant to the repubs. Or the new prescription drug program - just about only helps the drug companies. Or "tax reform" only helps the rich.

Another thing about "reform". They complain the Democrats have no plan. Well, if you see all this "reform", and your opponents have no plans for "reform", then they are obviously incompetent. Plus, then they get to say they did all this reform and their opponents did nothing.

And lastly, if there is nothing to reform, what do we need them for?

3. Claiming to be reformers is both good damage control and easy sound bite
Repubs are masters at shaping public opinion and limiting debate with their glib talking points and sound bites. With our complacent media and general public's short attention span, they know they have a good chance of counteracting Dem accusations of Repub corruption by simply stating that the wrongdoing is a widespread nonpartisan problem that they are working to correct and that Justice Dept is doing all the investigating that is necessary. Chris Matthews of MSNBC has led the way spreading their message.
