W and Laura speak at NO High School: Don't forget the portable AC!!

President Bush, left, looks to the crowd as first lady Laura Bush speaks at Warren Easton Senior High School in New Orleans, Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006 in commemoration of the first anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. (AP Photo/LM Otero)

But what did it take to make this photo-op happen?

http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/news_theswamp/2006/08/staging_message.html#more

NEW ORLEANS -- It was comfortable inside the old high school auditorium where President Bush delivered his address today on the first anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. It should have been – massive temporary ductwork had been installed to pump the product of massive portable air conditioners into the auditorium of a school that is set to reopen after the flooding next week but still lacks central air conditioning.

Outside Warren Easton Senior High School, massive air conditioners were positioned to pipe cool air into the auditorium for the president's appearance here today. Photo by Mark Silva.

Here are the hoses snaking through the library en route to the auditorium. Photo by Silva.

"One of the great signs of recovery all along the Gulf Coast are the schools that are up and going again,'' Laura Bush said today.

Here they go, through a hallway, almost there. Silva.

Cool air flows into the auditorium of Easton High, thanks to the ductwork strung through the library, though the president has left. Photo by Silva.

5. His feet are not to touch the ground, either...
Saturday, March 13, 2004
Boy Emperor's feet must not touch the ground
I'm not making this up!

For days now, the job at Eisenhower Park in Nassau County has been to follow the order from the White House through the Secret Service and down to the park workers:

"The president's feet are not to touch the dirt."

So all yesterday, large crews drawn from all county parks worked to ensure that, as always in his life, George Bush's feet do not touch the ground when he appears in the big park today.

Yesterday, a big guy, who had been fixing serious pipe leaks in the county executive's building, was on the walkway unrolling wooden storm fencing that would create an alley for Bush to walk down.

"When you get the fence up, what do you do?" he was asked.

"Cover the ground so his feet don't touch it."

"Is that true?"

"My boss told me that. If he says so, it's true."

"That sounds crazy."

"It sounds like I get paid every week," he said.

(via Jimmy Breslin, via Damfacrats)

But hey, let's look on the bright side! Now we have proof that Bush actually created one job!

19. That's okay..bush's fucking feet would
only contaminate the dirt around there and they'd have toxic waste to deal with, too.

How much chutzpah do you have to have to ignore New Orleans last year and then go around acting like you care on the first anniversary of a disaster you could have helped prevent?

The last time the Monkey spoke in NOLA, he was a walking definition of FLOPSWEAT. Remember the armpit rings, the dripping sweat on his BACK....it was disgusting!! And something even the mightiest of "dress shields" could not combat!

Thus, the necessity of Presidential Air Conditioning....why, I'm surprised they haven't just installed a great big bubble over the pig farm, er, ranch and air conditioned the great outdoors for his Majesty!!!!

Do I need to pull this :sarcasm: thing out???

Reminds me of last years Bush appearance where they temporarily had power in NO just so Bush could have his speech.

And let's not forget last year when dozens of Katrina victims were kept waiting for food. They had to because Laura hadn't shown up yet for the Photo OP of her serving them. What a gal!

14. Oh, isn't that sweet?
At $55K per hour to fly George around the country/world, he could have air conditioned all the schools in NO if he'd stayed home, rather than blow the money out an exhaust pipe.

What a fake "face" he has on him. The clown. Are we supposed to think he feels sorry for NO?

At least we know where Laura is. Bailing out George, again!

The poster is right, that is one user-friendly library!

I wonder how many books could have been purchased for the price of renting and operating the air conditioning alone.

But, we have priorities!

20. Here's a little something from Jim Webb's
site that explains how bush's failure resulted in the catastrophe that is New Orleans today.

Snip~

"Speaking at the Virginia Building and Construction Trades Council Summer Convention, Jim Webb focused on three critical points that characterize a complete breach of national trust and leadership on behalf of President George Bush:

Failure of Planning: The Bush Administration paid insufficient attention not just to preparation for disasters and emergency management capabilities, but also to the nation’s infrastructure needs and the kinds of investments that would have prevented or at least minimized massive problems when unpredictable events occurred.

Failure of Operational Leadership: Despite warnings and briefings, the Bush Administration was unprepared for the challenge posed by a massive natural event coupled with an enormous break-down of critical infrastructure that literally brought a vibrant American city to its knees. The appointment of political cronies left the Federal Emergency Management Agency with incapable management. The reliance on the slow plodding bureaucracy at the Department of Homeland Security cost valuable time in the midst of overwhelming human need.

Failure of Follow-Up: Rather than make a true investment in post-Katrina rebuilding, the Bush Administration followed the model in Iraq. Contracts were offered without a bidding process and the same contracts were implemented without sufficient oversight. The result has been massive waste and corruption.

"Failure of planning. Failure of operational leadership. Failure to follow up. Sound familiar?” said Webb. “Of course it does. Because this is exactly the same pattern that we see from this Administration in Iraq and it reflects a failure of overall approach that needs to be remedied. A remedy that is an independent voice in the U.S. Senate willing to fight for change.”

Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 04:21 PM by sparosnare
No power anywhere, but they brought in huge lights so he could stand in the square and talk about what a great job the feds were doing. Then when he was done, they turned them off and left. Same old shit.

Oh - and someone should tell Laura to lighten up on the lipstick shade - she looks like a corpse.
