Whatever Happened to Peace on Earth?
Willie wrote this song on Christmas, 2003, and will perform it for the first time at the Kucinich for President fundraising concert in Austin, Texas, on Jan. 3, 2004.

There's so many things going on in the world
Babies dying
Mothers crying
How much oil is one human life worth
And what ever happened to peace on earth

We believe everything that they tell us
They're gonna' kill us
So we gotta' kill them first
But I remember a commandment
Thou shall not kill
How much is that soldier's life worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we've been told from our birth
Hell they won't lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liar's word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

So I guess it's just
Do unto others before they do it to you
Let's just kill em' all and let God sort em' out
Is this what God wants us to do

And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we've been told from our birth
Hell they won't lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liar's word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

Now you probably won't hear this on your radio
Probably not on your local TV
But if there's a time, and if you're ever so inclined
You can always hear it from me
How much is one picker's word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

But don't confuse caring for weakness
You can't put that label on me
The truth is my weapon of mass protection
And I believe truth sets you free

And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we've been told from our birth
Hell they won't lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liar's word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

7. That is beautiful and the essence of our lives
I'm just as confused, lost and puzzled as everyone else, but I'm going to try so hard to overcome these obstacles and struggle forward. I don't know what else to do. Ya know?

10. I watched that fundraiser concert.
DK had some great support there. As a lifelong Willie Nelson fan, I was glad to add this one to his "Jimmy's Road" from a previous generation.

This is Jimmy's road where Jimmy liked to play
This is Jimmy's grass where Jimmy liked to lay around

This is Jimmy's tree where Jimmy liked to climb
But Jimmy went to war and something changed his mind

This is the battle ground where Jimmy learned to kill
Now Jimmy has a trade and Jimmy knows it well too well

This is Jimmy's grave where Jimmy's body lies
When a soldier falls Jimmy's body dies and dies

Well this is Jimmy's road where Jimmy likes to play
This is Jimmy's grass where Jimmy likes to lay around

My oldest son called me to let me know he has tickets to see Willie at the Hollywood Bowl next week; I wonder if he'll sing either one of these. They are certainly both topical.

11. War is just SO much more profitable...to those in positions of power..
that Jesus guy lived on the fringe...a radical. He didn't have shareholders. He didn't have quarterly reports or earnings margins. How's he gonna get 12-15% R.O.I?

13. "Let There Be Peace On Earth" . . .
Let there be peace on earth,
and let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on Earth,
the peace that was meant to be.

With God as our Father,
brothers all are we,
Let me walk with my brother,
in perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me,
let this be the moment now.
With every step I take,
let this be my solemn vow,

To take each moment and live each moment
in peace, eternally.
Let there be Peace on Earth,
and let it begin with me.

Words and Music by Jill Jackson and Sy Miller, Circa 1955
