Where did all the black people go?
Edited on Tue Aug-29-06 04:53 PM by DoYouEverWonder
Looks like Bush's plans for rebuilding New Orleans are a huge success. :sarcasm:

Friends and relatives of people lost during last year's levee break gathered at the 17th Street Canal to toss a wreath into the water during a memorial for the first anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans, Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006.

3. Well, isn't that a pasty-looking crowd.

I count exactly two black people. I just can't imagine why there aren't a few more -- enough to represent the actual proportion of black people in NOLA? Just an oversight, no doubt. :sarcasm: Was this event orchestrated for Bush's photo-op visit?

5. What seems even wierder to me, is that picture implies most of
the dead were white, if those are the "friends and relatives." The black people have been purged from the city, and from the memory of the event... (That woman in the middle better watch her back.)

7. That was the plan to distribute the black folk to other communities
across the country and rebuild NO as a a mostly white city.

12. I noticed a lot of volunteers are white, many are young.
I know what you mean about this picture, but it depends on who the crowd is and where the crowd is. Look at pictures of the memorial at 9th Ward, at that levee, lots of white Common Ground vollies and black residents.

13. New Orleans was 67% black before Katrina
A memorial at the 17th Street Canal should have more then 2 black people in it.

I wouldn't call this a high white neighborhood.

17. I know, I was just adding some observations, not saying "no problem"
Could be they were too busy to come to this, or at another place, or protesting Mr.bush's visit, or....

And I did see much more white than black people, should've been the other way around, but there you are. I am not posting much on DU today, am too angry at the arrogance of the bushites.

14. Be nice ... they were told to show up in "regular people clothes"
and leave their three-piece suits and gold at home for the photo-op ... which only cost them $1000 a head ...
