New Orleans, Cafe Du Monde and the Bush drive by.
Edited on Tue Aug-29-06 02:36 PM by Stoic
I'm down here in NOLA helping my daughter move into her dorm room and we decided to go to the Cafe Du Monde this morning for some beignets. We parked some blocks away but I noticed as we walked the street was blocked off and there was a motorcycle cop stationed every block. I realized that the dickhead Bush is still in town and this is probably his escape route.

We get to the Cafe and there are all kinds of middle-aged white people milling about probably hoping to catch a glimpse of their Dear Leader. I asked my daughter if she wanted to sit near the street where I could start shouting obscenities if Bush should arrive or more in the center of the seating area where I was safer from being arrested. She chose more to the center.

Chicken.

After the beignets arrived the excitement picked up and even he waitresses started moving to the street side.

And that's when the "boos" started and there were plenty of them. Evidently there are a few people in New Orleans who aren't Bush fans. I wonder why.

It made me proud to be an American, I'll tell you.

Unfortunately for my career as a Bush heckler it was only a drive by as the motorcade swept down the street.

Edited on Tue Aug-29-06 03:08 PM by cat_girl25
I probably would have thought the same thing. I hope they were loud enough for him to hear.

3. One would think that Gulf Coast residents
would have a great deal of contempt for bush. I mean they know how things really are down there.

frat boy trick from my college days -- wiping powdered sugar under your nose and pretending to be a cokehead. Oh, wait, that might not have been a stretch for him.

6. The dumbass would be better off not showing his ugly, ignorant, clueless
patrician face in NOLA. If you have the opportunity, go to Cafe Du Monde about 1:00 in the morning. Less of a crowd and Jackson Square is downright eerie in the early morning light.

13. I miss beignets

The closest I've been to the Cafe du Monde in years is my coffee mug from there. ::sigh::

Glad to hear they're up & running, but damn, now I want beignets & chicory coffee!

It does my heart good to hear about the people of New Orleans booing his royalness. He's screwed them so badly.

If you get a chance there's a little shop on Chartres St near Canal run by a former Austrailian woman. We cried together over the fate of the city. Her stories were heartwrenching. She does, however, have the most interesting jewelry.

People of the US need to do what the world portestors have been doing. We need to give him a collective middle finger for all he's done.

14. Thank you, Stoic.

You have restored my faith in my fellow
man ( and woman).

Georgie really should not have gone to NOLA, today.
His obvious week long absence last year is just too fresh
in everyone's mind.

Bush has no shame. It's sickening.

We haven't made it down there as of yet, and I seem to recall promising Bosshog we'd host him for beignets and coffee at Cafe du Monde...hopefully, we'll be there soon.

I love Cafe du Monde. I go there everytime I'm in NOLA with my native born NOLA husband and his family. I was last there about two months before the hurricane.
